ESTA issue passport validity too long
 

Slightly OT guys, but has anyone had issues recently getting through to page 2 of ESTA application due to UK passport being valid for 10 years 9 months? (i.e. longer than 10 years)

I am literally having this problem right now... interested to see what the answer is!

Yes it's a strange one, 2 of my friends also having the issue. Is there only that one official page for applying. I notice there are other avenues but not sure i trust them! I've never had this issue before!

Subscribed to thread ... although I have until 2021 on the current passports.

I guess, as the Passport Office doesn’t add unexpired validity any more, this will automatically fade away in future.

I personally don’t fancy having to get new passports 5ish years early just because of this.

I am not sure I understand your comment.

Earlier this month I renewed an ESTA on one of my passports which had a validity in excess of ten years.

I’ve had numerous Estas on my 10 year nine month passport with no issues, has there been a change recently?

There have been various reports on other forums today that people are unable to proceed to the second page of the ESTA application process for this reason. Either it is a system error/bug or worst case this is an uncommunicated policy change which will require new passports for a few million people.

I think it’s quite recent. If anybody has an answer I would be very happy to know it! Otherwise I guess it’s time to get a new passport!

Ive just checked for my own sanity and I think it is a system error.

the message that is returned is:

”Passport Issuance Date more than 11 years from the Passport Expire Date”

Which is not correct, the gap is 10 years 8 months.

It is definitely a coding issue because its only looking at the years and not the actual validity of the passport. For example I put in May 2017-Feb 2028 (10 years, 9 months) and it won't let me proceed but if I put in Jan 2017-Dec 2027 (10 years, 11 months) it does work. I was told by one person to check back in 4 days (which is not good enough because the system has already been down since Thursday for their upgrade and myself, and I am sure many others, want to fly within the next couple of days).

Just been trying to do a new ESTA right now due new passport. I'm not having the passport date validity problem, rather I'm not receiving a code to verify my email address as required now when you go from page one to page two of the application. Tried two different email addresses and two different browsers, but nothing arriving and nothing in spam folders.

Will hope it is just a temporary glitch and try again in a day or two...

Well the passport validity issue does now seem to be resolved which is great. Scott Pilgrim I hope you manage to get your issue solved. ^
