It Arrived!

March 23rd - Sent Priority Mail - Routine Application
March 25th - Arrived at Passport Office PO BOX
March 26th - Check Cleared
March 27th - Found this forum and realized that my passport had a very short window of making it to me for my April 25th flight!!
March 27th - Called the Passport Office with my locator number to change it to expedited
April 1st - Received notice that my card was charged the 60.00 expediting fee
April 3rd - Received an e-mail with my passport tracking number expected arrival date 04/08/2019!! :)
April 5th - Received my passport!
Total time from routine changed to expedited to received - 13 days!!

My fiance and I applied for both a passport and passport card. No expedited service. Total time to receive all related items was four weeks.

Feb 2 - Applied in person at local USPS passport site.
Feb 27 - Email sent that processing was complete and passports had been shipped.
March 1 - Received both passports and passport cards.

March 21 - Applied via local passport site (not a USPS location and required driving about 45 minutes away to one that didn't require appts) - Told them that we needed them for travel on April 15th. I believe this facility charged for priority mailing.
March 29 - Received notice when checking the status online that it would arrive by April 6th
April 1st - Received 3 new passports, did NOT pay for expedited
April 6th & 8th - Received birth certificates and expired passports back

Another adult had a different experience:

March 27th - Mailed in a passport renewal and listed May 4th as the deadline for when it was needed. Not mailed via priority.
April 5th - Still showed as processing without an expected date to receive it
April 5th - Paid to have it expedited
April 6th - Received email saying that it was being processed without expedited service
April 8th - Verified with the passport office that it is listed as expedited in their system even though we can't view that terminology on our end
April 9th - Finally shows in the system as expedited, but still doesn't have a date for arrival

Edit: April 11th - Estimated delivery of April 13th via Express mail!

We travel on Sunday, April 28th and did routine based on the info from this site---I recognize this is a gamble! This site has been so valuable and I want to help others with up to date info:

Mailed from Buffalo, NY USPS Priority - Saturday, March 16th, arrived at Passport location Tuesday March 19th
Check cleared Thursday March 21st ....
Logged into passport dot gov and locator number was assigned this morning. (Thursday march 21st, the same day the check cleared)

Stay tuned~

I've been checking the passport status daily...last time was 11pm last night----it was still just showing 'processing'....this morning though at 8am eastern:

Your passport application is in the final processing stages.

When you applied, you requested Routine Service.

This means you should receive your passport on or about 04/17/2019.

Looks like the site updates overnight...I was getting really worried as we fly out on April 25th....looks like we are going to be ok...I'll keep updating! This site is awesome---thank you to all who take the time to post!

Passport arrived in mailbox on Saturday, April 13th.

...moral of the story? March is HIGH season for renewals. If you have less than 5 weeks--I'd expedite.

This matches almost to the day our renewal process. I did a Passport card as well, almost exactly 4 business weeks.

Hoping my wife's comes soon. She opted for regular renewal on roughly that same timeframe, with her next scheduled international trip on May 17.

Still says "processing" on the State Department website, and says to call if within 2 weeks of travel, so we're getting close to that point. It was delivered to PA around 3/18 IIRC.

We opted for the regular service to avoid the extra fees. My expedited renewal in December was in under 10 days (I had late January travel and wanted to play it safe).

Is there a difference between renewal applications and new ones? I would assume renewals would be easier, but it seems like most take a long time as well. I had to submit a new request because my pp expired. I still had to send off my old one, which I thought was weird. Anyway, tomorrow would make 3 weeks exactly (15 days) after the State Dept received my application and gave me an application locator number. I travel next week Friday, it's on a closed loop cruise to the Bahamas so I don't necessarily need the passport, but it would be nice to have it by then.

8am: Arrived at Washington DC Passport Agency
8:30am: Renewal application Submitted
2:30pm: Arrived to pick-up (slip said 2pm)
3:30pm: New passport and old cancelled passport in hand

Overall, I was quite impressed and it was perhaps the most positive experience I've ever had interacting with a US government agency.

April 17 - Applied at local USPS office (renewal, normal processing, for minor)
May 2 - email notification, saying printed with USPS tracking (label created)
May 4 - ETA

Wow. I'm assuming this was one of the "immediate need" expedited versions?

I've gotten same day service before even when I didn't need it for another 8 days.
