North Korea tourism = no more visa waiver program

The US has announced that travellers from Visa Waiver Program countries will no longer be eligible for visa free access through ESTA and will need to apply for a US visa.

I went to North Korea last year as a tourist. My question is - how would the US know if I have travelled to North Korea? There's no evidence in my passport, no entry stamp or visa from North Korea.
