USPS mailboxes at US airports: availability and location

Is there any good table about where a tourist can drop his postcard in US airports without spending too much time on asking and figuring mailbox's location out?

It could be quite important data. There are definitely problems with this at JFK and PHX.

At LAX I was told there are no more mailboxes due to security issues.

However, the nice lady at the Lufthansa counter told me that she could take a letter or postcard or two and put it in the outgoing Lufthansa box as this was okay with company and security. But, nothing big or thick.

I've generally found that to be true; I've walked around and around my share of airports trying to find a mailbox with no luck. I don't count on being able to mail from an airport anymore.

If you have an iPhone or an iPod Touch, there's an app for that. USPS has a free app that will give you the location(s) of the nearest mail boxes and post offices.

ORD by the stairs/Starbucks leading to the C concourse (near gate B9) and again when you get up the stairs by C16.

So many excuses are "because of security." But if that is the case, then why does MSP have mailiboxes at the beginning of concourse F across from the entrance to the Sky Club?

Same bogus answer about why there is no luggage storage at some airports. If it really is a security issue, then ALL domestic airports should have no luggage storage, which we all know is not the case. There is luggage storage and/or lockers both before and after security at a variety of airports. And I am not usually a complainer about airline/airport security lol.

Translation: the US gov't (USPS) thinks the US gov't (TSA) is so incompetent that people in areas outside of the TSA "secured" area are less likely to have bombs, etc. than people inside the area "protected" by the gov't.

i.e. The US government claims that it its aviation "security" service (the TSA) somehow reduces security.

Perhaps the USPS thinks that the TSA should screen people leaving aircraft?

There is (or was) also some PO Boxes available for rent landside. Just for kicks one time I asked about renting one, but they were all taken. Imagine having an airport as a mailing address.

Most airports removed airside mailboxes toward the end of the reign of the Unabomber (93-95). That is also when the post office added weight restrictions to packages dropped into mailboxes. Packages could not weigh more than 1 pound or you had to bring it into the Post Office, unless it was metered because the meter stamp identifies the shipper.
