Very cool, thanks for sharing. Did anyone else notice that this says there will be a "moving map so you can check you flight's progress?" That would be a great addition, IMO. ^

However US will have 1 extra seat across versus AC (1-2-1 vs 1-1-1). Those have to be fairly narrow seats.

The suite area looks decent, but the seat itself looks like an over-glorified beach chair. Let's be real here, who could really sleep on that?

Drink enough booze from your party cup. It's a theme.

I'm a white business man, myself, but even this stuck out to me.

I'm just sayin....

I like the progress report button on there. Hmmm - they have 3 A332s?

Yes, #3 was just delivered. 4 and 5 will come in Q4 and presumably one of them will have the new seats on delivery (as will the subsequent ones).

The press release says 20 seats on the 332, which is the same as current.

I'm not that familiar with all of US's 330 planes, but I count 30 seats currently on the ones I'm familiar with: 5 rows of 2 x 2 x 2. So there will be a reduction of 33% on these birds.

You're confusing the A333 (30) with the A332 (20).

Here's the planned schedule:

A/C . . . Delivered . . . Suites Installed
279 . . . 7/09 . . . . . . 1/10
280 . . . 7/09 . . . . . . 1/10
281 . . . 9/09 . . . . . . 11/10
282 . . . 11/09*
283 . . . 12/09 . . . . . 11/10
284 . . . 3/10*
285 . . . 3/10*
286 . . . 5/10*
287 . . . 5/10*
288 . . . 8/10*
289 . . . 10/10*
290 . . . 12/10*
291 . . . 3/11*
292 . . . 5/11*
293 . . . 6/11*

*: Airplanes delivered with the Suites

So while the press release says installation on the -200s will be complete by summer 2011, that's only because that's when the last one is planned for delivery. As of January, 2010, 2 of the 332s will have the old seats, and in November, 2010, after the summer flying, those planes will get the suites, and all of the 332s will be equipped from then on.

Apparently the design for the 333 is still being finalized.

frei2432 Sep 18, 09 10:55 pm

Well how else do you expect them to make the conversion? Pull all of their A330 aircraft out of commission all at once so they can all be completed at the same time? Now that makes great business sense!!!

Hi, Thanks for that. What is your source?
When you say 11/09 - you mean the end of November 2009 or the beggining of November 2009?
Do you know why aircraft 283 will be delievered without the new envoy?
Is there any chance that US will confirm in advance which A332 routes will be operated by aircrafts with the new envoy, like UA did after they just started refetting their 767 and 747 with their new business and like BA does with their new club world? If they will confirm, is there any chance you know if the TLV route will have the new envoy by May?

THX in advance.

US becomes a good *A choice across the pond

This IS a game-changer for US. Nice to see that they are (slowly) making an investment in customer comfort and recognize what the international traveler needs. Until LH and SQ update their business class seats, US may be the best TA choice.

Two of my paid TA flights this year were on VA and AC specifically b/c of their pod seats. The US version looks a tad nicer, especially the layout. Being able to look out the window is surprisingly valuable. When traveling with husband/wife/sig-other being able to drop the partition b/t the middle seats and talk to each other is a big bonus (so is putting partition back UP :D). I chose to cash in points for LH First to CDG for the anniversary trip with Mrs. PittDoc primarily b/c of the seating arrangement (and the FC lounge at FRA).

As far as the soft product, US current Envoy is about the same as VS, AC and LH business class. Long way to go beat SQ food but I'd rather get a good night's sleep. If flying to LHR I might choose VA b/c of the lounge. Overall US is looking good for TA flights, esp w/ points and UG's, assuming one can be assured of getting the "suite" A330s.

On pg. 1 of this thread there are a couple of posts detailing how the herringbone pattern allows for 1x2x1 and keep the same # of seats (in a nutshell: less pitch per row is needed so we will see more rows with fewer seats).
