Buy Back Your Status
I didn't fly US Air that much last year so I didn't cry when I lost my preferred status .
I got this email today, found it interesting but I'm not biting.... curious if other airlines follow suit.
Hope the link isn't too long to copy/paste:

If anyone buys CP for $10,000 please tell them I have an exclusive offer, just for them.
There's a bridge or two in Manhattan that needs an owner. And they'd be the perfect candidate.

So basically, you would need to earn one elite qualifying mile somehow, then buy:
Wow. They even sell their highest tier. Why am I not surprised?
Silver for $1050
Gold -- (and therefore Star Alliance Gold) for $2500
Or, completely buy your way from one tier to the next (e.g. earn Silver, buy up to Gold -- earn Platinum, buy up to CP) for $1050.Gold -- (and therefore Star Alliance Gold) for $2500
Wow. They even sell their highest tier. Why am I not surprised?

I'm half tempted to call that number and ask how much for "Client 9 status". And then ask about the hourly rate.
For some reason I feel like they might actually name a price.

Apparently this is being offered to folks with no status as well. A friend who had 20K EQM last year received an email yesterday with a buy-up to Silver offer for $450.

Still, this should make life a little easier for their customer service, to have an answer when when people call about being a little short on miles to earn status for the next year, and if there is any way to buy those last few miles. I doubt they really expect anyone to buy CP from zero, but now they have an answer if someone asks that too.

Did it.
Now I don't fly nearly as much as many on this board, and I fly on my own dime, nevertheless I qualified for SP in 2006. It might not seem like much, but I grew fond of priority boarding, an occasional upgrade, and just a tiny bit of recognition at my local airport.
So fond of it that when I was bounced back to the proletariat earlier this year I missed the (very) few perks. And when I learned that I could buy back my SP status for a little over $400, I called immediately to be reinstated. In the NY area, that's the price of a good meal, or a few tickets to the theatre or a sports event.
Frankly, I'm hoping this promotion fails, so there'll be more room for me up in FC.
