flying the 767 overseas...

Hey you guys! I booked a flight on US from charlotte to madrid and returning from barcelona to charlotte. I am flying out early May and the main flights are to and from phl on a 767... I have seen on youtube that the 767's are undergoing an upgrade that results in better decor and ALL leather seats!!! At first I was HORRIFIED at the idea of flying an old US 762 for 7 or 8 hours but now that they are being updated im excited about the flights! But my question that the people at US couldnt answer when I called is "are ALL the 76's being updated? If so, by when will they be updated... and how can I find out if my plane will have leather or not..." do any of you frequent flyers know anything about this? Thanks for the help!!:D

this is the youtube post: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSfR0G89cT0

Barring any changes, all the 767's are having updated interiors installed but it's going to be a 2-stage process.

1 - the coach cabin is being done currently (don't know how many planes have been completed). That adds the leather seat covers among other things.

2 - Envoy will be done over the winter of 07/08 [edited by me - just noticed I used the wrong years]. The delay is reportedly caused by the availability of new seats from the manufacturer. So through this year's peak travel season, Envoy will have the same seats as in the past.

Here is a thread where someone flew to MAD with the new coach seats last year.

All of my flights this year to Europe have had the new coach as well.
FWIW, I did not find them to be hot and sweaty like the OP in the link above.

Half and half....

Half were delivered to Piedmont (1987 & 1988) and the other half were delivered to US Air (1990-1993).

Those "updated" Y seats look like neck-breakers.

Why do you say that?

I flew to Madrid this December on One of the upgraded 767's. The first leg I used miles to upgrade to Envoy. While I do not think it Envoy is worth the $500 go-upgrade, it is worth the 30,000 miles. However on the second leg I was in this "updated" Y. They seem to have gotten their leather from wherever Kia gets their leather. Also my tray table would not stay stiff, so every time I placed something on it I would have to hold it up with my knees. The flight attendants were complaining about the "updates" the whole flight, however the flight attendant disdain is something I have grown to love about USair.

I recently (March 07) flew from Phx to Philly to Madrid. The Philly/Madrid part was on a 767 and it was old and pretty nasty. Avoid the bulk head or in front of or behind the coach bathroom. No leg room behind and no recline in front.

Nice to hear they are updating them.

Cheers.

"HORRIFIED"? Don't you think that is a bit dramatic?

Have you flown the 767 before to have such an opinion?

most of my flights are on the 767. i prefer it much more to the 330,340,777 and 747 on a count that it haves a nice 2-3-2 config.

Care to state the reasons for your preference?
