US Airways to announce pact with Singapore Air


US Airways is ready to enter into a code-sharing alliance with Singapore Airlines, US Airways President Scott Kirby announced today at the airline's media day in Tempe. The deal will allow the airlines to sell seats on each other's flights. Reciprocal frequent-flier benefits also typically are included in such agreements.

What an awakening a US F or C flight would be for a SQ regular. :eek:

Why would SQ enter into an agreement with US and not UA???

Maybe they want to get first shot at those Mesa RJ's for codesharing....:D

Is there even much of a connection between US and SQs network? SQ flies into what, LAX, SFO, EWR, and maybe one other airport? All you can generally connect to on US would be flights to PHL, LAS, PHX, CLT, and PIT

Ah, lousy F service on US domestically on your way to your connecting flight with SQ. Worse, the cold shower effect upon return.

Indeed, why on earth would SQ do this. An attempt from US to get in the China market?

I know the flights from PHL and CLT are already timed to make a conenction to SQ in LAX.

My son made the connection last year to SIN, and both of us have separate trips to fly US from the east to connect with SQ this year. I see it as legitimizing something that has already been taken place.

Maybe SQ could have a special Book the Cook menu for US code share pax:

-Can of Soda
-Pretzels
- Cup of Soda

With interaction and cooperation, may the attributes of SQ rub off on US! Hey, we're never gonna see the FA on US kneel down and talk to pax at eye-level, but SQ food and service on-board may well migrate to US...one can only hope :)

With US, SQ gains additional routings to popular places for their customers deplaning at LAX/SFO to places like LAS, Florida, and the islands, among others.

Both US and SQ share one similarity - the focus on profits, profits, profits is immense. US having a banner year in 2006 must have calmed the nerves of the SQ execs :)

LAS is one of the fastest growing destinations for Asian tourists in the entire world.

My guess is SQ wants to be able to offer easy connections from LAX and SFO to LAS.

Don't forget SQ offers 25/26 the JFK - FRA route, which can be a savior away from LH or US T/A. And FRA is the biggest jumping off point for EU flights.

This is great for us ^ ^ ^ .

Now if only we could use our US miles to upgrade SQ flights.

"In exchange for financing from Airbus, US Airways had agreed to buy the European jetmaker's A350 model as part of its merger agreement with America West. But now with the A350 years behind schedule and undergoing a complete redesign, US Airways may be reconsidering its options. Speaking today at the airline’s media day event, US Airways CFO Derek Kerr says the carrier is considering whether to "shore up" its order with Airbus for a redesigned A350 or to go with Boeing’s hot-selling – and competing – 787 Dreamliner jet. “We are looking at both,” Kerr says.

Dreamliner would be too good of a move. Nah, they won't make that good of a decision....

Are yopu kidding me Airbus is so desperate they might give 350s with loaner 330s and 340s all for the price of one Embraer 170.

It is more on Airbus to convince US why they should keep their order.
