PreCheck on AA

OK, so while I've had good experiences with flying on AA so far, I do have one gripe: I can't seem to get PreCheck ... ever. I've ticketed every way possible, from native aa.com pushing (obviously) a 001 stock solely on AA coded, AA metal flights; usairways.com pushing an 037 ticket solely on US-codeshare, AA operated flights, and mixed flights on both 037/001 on my company GDS. Have also bought a mix of F class and Y class fares, with the latter upgrading most of the time into A. My known traveler ID is always in the system, verified on aa.com- at ticketing, at check in, I've even called it into the EXP desk, and also requested it to be put in at check in. Never has Precheck ever worked.

On the other hand, on US, it works 100%, every time, without fail. I remember even buying UA-codeshares on 016 stock with mixed UA-US segments pre-merger and it all worked, on both UA and US flights!

Anyone else with this issue or is it just me? I'm traveling alone all the time, if that matters.

This is my only gripe with AA so far, but a pretty big PITA.

PreCheck on AA

Did you confirm your name and birthdate match exactly in your AA profile to your KTN profile?

I've heard that TSA is phasing out Pre-Check for those elites that got it by invitation from the airline and it will eventually be restricted only for those that pay for it and go through the background check process.

I have Global Entry and always get PreCheck with AA and even airlines I have no status with (UA, Southwest)

Yes, DOB and name matches exactly what's on my GE card; it's exactly the same process when I book on US. And of course, this isn't precheck from being a Chairmans, but rather from Global Entry.

Have you called? We were having issues and called in after check in and not receiving it and they were able to identify specific problem.

I am a CP on USAirways. When I checkin for an AA-operated flight I always get TSA PreCheck. I never have gotten it on USAirways. I emailed the Chairman's desk and asked them why this is and after much proding they won't investigate it - they said it is at TSA's discretion and I should be happy I ever got it on AA.

They are correct. TSA has announced that it is "degrading" the selection for those who obtained it via a carrier's elite program and "enhancing" it for those with a KTN, either through the TSA program or GE.

Doesn't explain your particular situation, but as time marches on, if you are a FF, you will likely want to enroll in one of these programs (GE being the better deal if you have a passport and travel internationally even infrequently).

The OP has GE. He is not getting pre-check on AA. My husband (EXP on AA) was having this exact issue. The EXP line transferred his case to a specialist at AA and she identified the problem and corrected it and has gotten pre-check ever since. I do not know exactly what she did, but sometime was broken and she fixed it.

I had the same problem. it was an issue with my middle name not matching what was on my passport but on my Driver's license. Be sure the middle name is there...sometimes that makes a difference.

I just purchased Global Entry a couple months ago. No problems on my 4 AA flights, all booked through AA on AA metal with my US FF number and known traveler ID put in.

personally.. i've noticed this:

Booked a flight on USAir metal... used my AAdvantage # (which does have my GE#)... then when i go to check in online (or phone) and get boarding pass... no precheck. so i log into USAir with my COnfirm Code...NOT thorugh my USAir log in...reservation comes up with no GE #. I load the GE # in... re checkin from the USAir site... send a link to my phone... boarding pass shows up (for iPhone's wallet) with precheck...

yes it's annoying... but i want all my miles to go to AA (except when there is a promotion with USAir)

I've had a very similar experience. My KTN never made it to the ticketing information database on US Airways when i booked a mixed metal ticket using AA.com and US Air Dividend Miles FF while manually imputing the KTN on AA's site.. I ended up calling the US Airways reservations desk and they were able to take care of me.

Maybe I am paranoid, but I check all reservations for KTN a couple of days out. And if mixed I check both airlines. Alaska/AA, US/AA, etc.

Different Known Traveler # for US Air and AA

I was having this problem (flying AA metal under US # and not getting Pre Check) so i checked to make sure my known traveler # was in my profiles.

When i checked- to my (and the agent's) surprise my US and AA Known traveler # were entirely different. In US profile (located via 'account information') it was XXXXXX737 while AA (found on 'personal information' tab) it is XXXXXX367 (note more than just last 3 digits were different) Don't know if its because i was an early sign up to the AA program when it first rolled out but i suspect the different # were creating a 'mismatch' between my name/# in AA system and trusted traveler # if pulled from US profile (never had any issues getting pre check flying AA on AA # or US on US #).

For an AA flight being credited to my US Air account last week I gave the reservation agent my AA traveler # and she updated the record (after consulting with supervisor on how to handle). Got pre check on all 4 segments of RT with connections.

Not sure if this is the case with other folks - but something worth checking into to see if it also works for you also.

PS - US # matches my Global Entry # while AA does not.
