US Ditching Some Star Alliance Partners

"We plan to continue relationships with the following airlines, which means you'll be able to earn and redeem miles on these select partners even after we've exited Star Alliance: Aegean, Air China, Air New Zealand, Shenzhen Airlines, Singapore Airlines, South African Airways, TAM, TAP and Turkish Airways."

compared to an earlier version of this same post

"We plan to continue relationships with the following airlines, which means you’ll be able to earn miles on these select partners even after we’ve exited Star Alliance: Aegean, Air China, Air New Zealand, Avianca, Ethiopian Airlines, Eva, Shenzhen Airlines, Singapore Airlines, South African Airways, TAM, TAP and Turkish Airways. "

Any word on what happened to EVA, Ethiopian, and Avianca?

I wonder how long this will last after US and AA become one airline. Using AA miles on SQ would be nice. As would earning miles on those cheap TK fares.

What motivation would they have for doing that?

Couldn't find a straight answer to this elsewhere (is there one?), but I'm assuming that post-3/30 only RDMs can be accrued on these partners rather than EQMs?

Access to US Flights

I believe that the motivation is access to the US Air flights up and down the East Coast.

Hopefully at least codeshare flights will be, though (e.g. as of sometime last week, US was selling codeshares on TK metal)...

good attention to details!
I fear though, by March 30, the list may shrink even more.

Here's to hoping SQ stays on the list. Their new J product looks great.

All very well but US currently does not allow redemption in SQ's premium J products on the A380 and 77W so unless you're paying with cash you won't be trying out those seats.

I've actually been on their retired EWR-SIN route a half dozen time on revenue tickets for work. I'd just hate having to choose between 25k PQMs and a nice product if it was a business trip. In my opinion the 18hr flight was a pleasure thanks to their equipment and service. I keep hearing Cathay is just as nice, i just cant believe it.
