FA threatened to kick me off because I had my Kindle on while still at the gate

I'm confused. I thought electronic gadgets are now permitted from gate to gate, as long as I put it in airplane mode.

My flight was still sitting at the gate(door closed) when the FA walked by and saw me reading on my Kindle. She startled me by yelling "you need to turn that off or I will have the airport police escort you off MY plane!"(imagine a mad Mike Tyson's yelling in a woman's voice)

Being the obedient gutless chicken, I complied. I turned it off(which is technically not possible because I have the special edition Kindle reader). She demanded that I hand it over to her to verify that it was off. She threw it back to me and missed. Fortunately, my seatmate caught it just before it landed on the floor.

Hasn't the ruled changed? Or does it not apply to US Airways? :(

Wow - I'd send US an e-mail, throwing a passengers electronic device is way out of line. Imagine how badly it would of been if it would of landed on the ground and shattered.

Were you on a mainline flight or express?

Was this US Airways Express like Piedmont or Republic?

mainline Airbus A321.

wait... mainline and express have DIFFERENT policies?

Often1 Nov 25, 13 12:59 pm

None of the Express carriers have FAA approval for their revised policies yet. US does.

It's not simply a matter of policy, it involves certification with the FAA. The various Express carriers are certified independently of mainline --

Wow.

This is the type of thing that infuriates me. I would be spending the next week trying to get her fired.

ummm... NO... I do not want anybody fired. Besides, she's way too hot to be fired. She was probably the 3rd hottest FA that I had ever encountered in the last 25 years.

She may look hot, but that doesn't give her the right to act like a hothead.

coachrowsey Nov 25, 13 1:25 pm

Most likely she was new.

PWMTrav Nov 25, 13 1:29 pm

I flew Piedmont last week and they let us keep devices on gate to gate as well.

Anyway, I'd be complaining to US about this. Too hot to fire? Please. There are good looking people everywhere and some of them won't throw a kindle at you :D

If you were on an A321, you were definitely on mainline and she should know better! Geez, I get so tired of some of our f/a's not getting informed. I was personally in the CLT crew room like all US Airways crew rooms part of a team reminding f/a's of the new rules.

She may be pretty, but obviously dumb as rocks, needs anger management, and an attitude adjustment.

There's always that 1% that doesn't get the word right away. Sounds like you got one.
