My experience to date:
--On flights during the interval, booked prior to the interval, I was not offered the bonus multiplier.
--And I now know this because, having just booked a flight (booked during the interval, but to be flown outside the interval), I did get the bonus multiplier offer.

I spoke to someone at the Chairmans line today... She said the policy has changed and miles purchased through the "multiplier" program has changed and will post in 5 to 7 business days vs. the old instant posting.
I checked my reciepts and bank accounts and were charged for all purchases.
I called as I am waiting on at least 12K to post that I had recently purcahsed.

I am flying US on Fri. I got an email about this multiplier promo for check in.
Will this be offered for all members in party?
Also, I really want to use my UA # to get Mileage Plus miles to help Qlfy for *G.
Should I check in as usual, change the FF# to UA at the gate? If multiplier shows up great, if not, still not a bad deal.
Additional data: We are a family of 3 on the US mastercard $99 tickets, if it matters

Don't the T&C specifically state that if you cancel, you don't get the bonus miles???
Anyone, successfully bought a ticket, canceled it and still got the bonus miles???

Bonus miles are awarded 1-2 weeks after completion of travel.
Bonus is calculated at the time of Multiplier purchase and is not affected by changes to your itinerary, however miles are forfeited if you cancel or otherwise don’t complete your reservation.

Let's say I book a RT flight to China on US Air, and then cancel it, how many miles would I get and what would my cost be?

so is the only way to get a good deal on this having status? Trying to diversify my miles and i have no status with US, the SFO-TLV was pricing out at 1.8 per mile for me....seems that the bonus miles you get from status is where the meat of this is?

If you were comfortable floating $7k for a few months (or whatever it costs to sink into a ticket), you could just book something really far out (march / april of next year), snag the DMMs, book an award, then cancel the original reservation.
Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately for people who are using this honestly) I don't have that kind of spare change.
EDIT - disregard this post! I misunderstood the promotion. DMM miles can be obtained regardless of cancellation, but the 50% bonus miles are not awarded until after travel. No risk in losing DMM miles from cancelling a refundable flight, but there's no way you're getting the 50% bonus without flying.

What's the rush? Won't the MM still be available after the bonus? So for those who want to buy refundable fares get miles for 1.2cpm, can't they do it later when there is less controversy? I mean theoretically you can get 100k miles for 1198 dollars, and then spend like a 100 bucks more and then go first class to north asia from na by doing this? What's hindering everyone and what's with the fuss about the 50% bonus, for those who are not actually flying?
