The Official Codeshare and United Upgrade Thread

I just did a search on "Upgrade on United" and found that we have 58 threads that were returned!!

Here is my modest attempt at putting together a single thread that will prevent us from revisting basic questions over and over again. Please feel free to add, or suggest improvements. . .

Thanks for putting this together, Neo!

Great post.

However, I looked at those topics and did a search of my own and could not find the answer to my question.

I am traveling on US metal with a UA ticket. I am US silver. Can I get a comp upgrade on this flight based on my US status?

Thank you.

Yes. You must credit miles to your DM account and you can only use your free upgrade at the airport on the day on the flight

Agreed on the first part that you must credit your miles to your DM account but disagree with the "day of" for the upgrade.

As long as I've asked for my PNR (UA tickets have a separate PNR for US metal segments) they have always been able to put me in the upgrade queue and I've cleared at the 24-hour window.

As it should be... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif But it takes a call to DM for them to add you to the upgrade list.

Are other people having problems with this and if so, WHY? Strange....

You may be right about the second part. When called in advance I was told it could only be down at the airport. In my case there were no seats to clear until the gate cleared them and I did not ask to be put in the queue. I was told they would have to do it at the gate.

Good helpful thread.

To answer a lot of basic questions, it would be helpful if we could point to threads answering:

I bought a United ticket, but it's on USAirways, or vice versa.
Where do I check in?
Can I check-in online? Through which website?
Can I use the Kiosks?
Who do I call to make changes? What about seat assignments?
What if the first leg is United, then others are on USAirways?
(Please feel free to add others)

I've been a US and United elite for the past year and I'm still confused by some of these.

Links broken?

It appears all the links to the "Old FT" are broken. It would be wonderful if the original poster could fix them. I would help but I am not sure how to do it. And I guess only the original poster can edit his post.

Ditto. Does anyone know where I can find out about US upgrades/First tickets with US Miles?

Thanks.

Ok, so I am finally flying US again. I want to get my upgrade due to my US status but want the miles to go to UA.

I am thinking that it is best to wait to do it at the gate. It's the Shuttle DCA-BOS on a weekend. Plenty of availability.

Last year I was flying BOS-DCA-(IAD)-LHR-IAD on UA ticket. So I was only eligible for a gate upgrade. No problem and I even got miles in both accounts for this leg.

I think the Shuttle agents are used to entering both accounts due to the old promos where we could miles on both accounts.

p.s. All the links are dead.

I am doing this tomorrow, and having called the CP desk, they said that I could upgrade at the US counter on the day of the flight. I'm not sure if that goes for silver as well.

Yes, this is the rule for all elites. Of course these 'day of' upgrades would go based on elite order. I dont know whether we have figured out whether they go through all people with actual US tickets first before doing UA tickets, I doubt it though (eg CP/GP/SP on US tix then CP/GP/SP on UA tix).
