For rental cars, I'm in PHX, is it worth trying to contact one of the local companies and see if they are willing to do a group rate for multiple rentals? I looked at the rates during this past GS and they were way to high, couldn't find any coupons that made the rates any better. Not sure if a local rep would be willing or able to deal on rates? any thoughts?

I think the chances of us negotiating a special rate for a 10 minute, by phone rental, for the miles, are basically nil. I assume that all of these companies have agreements with the airlines that forbid essentially selling miles like that. I actually think starting down that path could cause some problems.

I know the Knight's Inn guy was very helpful, but he did seem to steer clear of advertising his loophole. He just processed rooms and no-shows as required by his Ts and Cs and let the rest work out on its own.

Avis had some deals (i.e. $ 16) for Saturday night rentals...you could have rented at Mesa Gateway Airport, Scottsdale Airport and Mesa Falcon Airport. I don't think that you can get a low rate at PHX given the taxes and fees that the rental car companies charges.

Hhonors Q1 2011 bonus points promo

For those who collect Hilton points or will be doing so to prepare for transfer to US during GS2011. bonus points on stays over 2 nights, up to 4x points on 4-night stays. Jan 3 thru end of March. Must register first. My experience has been that Hilton promos are combinable with property-specific promos such as double points for specific hotels. I don't have a list of these for Q1 2011 but will post if I find one. Not truly stackable because a 4x Quadruple Points promo on a 2x property-specific adds the bonuses rather than multiplying, but can still be quite lucrative, especially considering how many HHonors points you need to transfer to US. Also in the past Hilton has given promo credit for stays booked before promo registration but completed after.

All in all, with a little planning this can become a good stockpile awaiting transfer!

List of non-participating properties (there are a fair amount, so choose wisely, although it's probably not that big of a percentage when compared to all Hiltons all together) http://hhonors1.hilton.com/en_US/hh/...ls_q1/index.do

There's a lot of complaints against AutoVantage in my google search including getting drafted into expensive auto-renew subscription services without your consent, billed to your credit card, which is relayed to them somehow from whatever vendor gives you a gift like rental car free days or a small, unexpected check. Fees seem to be $69.99-89.99 per six months. The service looks similar to Carfax. I didn't see any reference to Wyndham; most of the complaints center around rental car companies sending checks unexpectedly. When you cash them, you get signed up for the service and the car company submits your payment info. If anyone gets more details on this promo, definitely find out up front what you're agreeing to when you accept your Wyndham points, how to cancel the AutoVantage, and be on top of any card you've left on file with Wyndham. Sounds like some very sneaky marketing, a lot of fine print, and nowhere near as easy to cancel as Netflix. Just my 2 cents...

Thanks for the post.

Looks like it's 1000 for signing up, and 2000 after the first stay. Either way, new accounts only.

How do you get a hit for TD Ameritrade?

I was looking through T&C and did not see how you actually get a hit for using TD Ameritrade? Anyone know?
