This is just grim. Nasty nasty people. Why on earth would you pack maggoty meat in your travel bag?

Grim.

You're right - could've kept it in their checked luggage

The Atlanta Fox affiliate has a report on their website titled "Video: Maggots Fall from Overhead Bin on U.S. Airways Flight - Airline says spoiled meat in a bag is to blame". Here's the link:

The story ran on tonight's (June 29, 2010) 10 PM Newscast.

A person bothering to transport spoiled meat is probably not going to be willing to spring for the checked baggage fee!

You wouldn't even want to think of the stuff that comes in from MEX. Sickening.

US Air fumigated plane *after* it flew ATL-CLT

The Atlanta fishwrap provides additional details:
http://www.ajc.com/news/atlanta/magg...ck-561325.html

"The plane returned to the gate and passengers got off so crews could clean the overhead bin.

[US Airways spokesman Todd Lehmacher] says the flight then continued on to Charlotte, where the plane was taken out of service and fumigated out of an "abundance of caution."

Wow.

dcpatti Jun 30, 2010 4:32 pm

US should really charge the owner of the maggot-bag for the cost of the fumigation. Common sense should dictate that the rotted meat belongs in the trash bag, not the travel bag. If they're some weird form of pet maggot, get a proper container for them so they don't fall out. This whole scenario just grosses me out.

This news clip also stated that the offending passenger was reaccommodated on another airline. EEEEWWWWWW! Hopefully sans any meat products.

So TSA never noticed crawling beings in the carry-on luggage? I guess since maggots don't explode it's not their problem. :p

I guess you've never seen anyone using a trash bag as a travel bag...

How many years have you been waiting to spring that one on us?!!? :D

Bonehead Jul 1, 2010 7:29 am

Maybe not a carrion...

...USAirways said the problem was caused by a passenger who brought a container of spoiled meat onto the plane. Harrell has her doubts about that. She said there was no smell of rotten meat. And, she said, there were flies on the plane, meaning the maggots had been there long enough to mature into flies....

But I would agree that the fact that two women from Syracuse smelled no rotting meat smells a little fishy.

Wait, what? The meat spells fishy? Haha

Donna Adamo is a laid-off tv reporter from Syracuse. Perhaps she just needed her 5 more minutes of fame.
