I am on LHR-PHL on Thursday on way to TalkBoard/Mods Meeting - and the US Travel waiver applies up to Tuesday at present. Not looking good.

Hi fellow FTers !

I'm based in FRA. As you all know FRA is temporarily closed as any other airport within Germany. No reliable info on how long the closure will last but at least until 04/18/2010 - 08:00 pm. *TO BE EXTENDED FOR UP TO 72 MORE HOURS ! So this might be also the time frame for any US flight to / from Germany.

For everybody planning going to / via German airspace, they just showed a forecast on German TV. This is the first time something link this happened, since Eurocontrol was founded, so they have no real data to make any reliable predication. Also I would like to recommend not only to think about how to get home asap, but also bearing in mind your safety. Have a look at this post, found by tomh009 http://www.flightglobal.com/articles...-volcanic.html

If you are in need of a "cheap" hotel in FRA, or any suggestion what to do meanwhile, or look for alternative travel suggestions feel free to PM me. I'll do my very best to help you out. The airport is already crowded with 1000s of people sleeping on cots. No fun place to spend several hours / days or days.

Imagine how this would have been without modern communications. I hate to think. Yes, it could be worse (could be raining)

For anyone departing from European airports, these regulations apply. Has anyone had any experience yet with what US is doing to accommodate pax and what they allow for?
http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/...4R0261:EN:HTML

According to the website, US says:
US Airways has relaxed ticketing policies for the impacted cities listed above. US Airways will allow one itinerary change without penalty for customers with travel to, from or through the cities listed above during the specified date range. See our revised ticketing policy below for rules and restrictions. Call 800-428-4322 for more information.

US Airways will waive the advance purchase and standard change fee.
You can move your entire itinerary up to fourteen days before or after the scheduled origination date (subject to original booking class availability).
You can apply the full value of your wholly unused tickets toward the purchase of a ticket to an alternate destination, although travel must originate within seven days of the scheduled origination date. Changes to origin and destination may result in an increase in fare. Any difference in fare between your new ticket and the original ticket will be collected at the time of booking.

Also, if your flight is cancelled due to the incident you can get a refund of your booking according to US.

What is US' policy for rebooking on partner airlines on alternate routes for irrops?

We're scheduled to fly DCA-PHL-MAN on Friday, returning Mon 26th and I'm not optimistic but not giving up yet either. We booked just to get the double EQM promo and used my CP upgrade certs roundtrip. Since airspace in Scotland and Ireland is beginning to open, I was curious as to what the options would be if we were to ask to go on a partner to Dublin or Belfast (couldn't find any DUB flights on US, maybe it's seasonal?).

In these circumstances, would US put us on a partner to an alternate destination? If so, would they book us in J or Y (we are currently in J fare class; I hadn't known that's what the CP certs book into)?

I know IF airspace is open, availability is going to be mighty scarce. Just wanted to know how closely I need to monitor the travel alerts and KVS etc. If they'd never rebook us onto a partner in this circumstance, or if it's likely to be Y, then I'd rather just take chances on the flight or let them cancel it outright and use the credit later.

Also anyone ever been on a flight that they've upgraded on CP certs and the flight was cancelled? Are they pretty quick about returning the certs to your account?

Thanks!

I am scheduled to leave Tuesday morning PHX-PHL-DUB, arriving Wednesday morning the 21st. What do the different colors and notations on these maps mean?

If you mean the green, red, and blue lines they're the extent of the ash cloud at different altitudes, which is given by the notations. Red is from the surface to 10,ooo', green is 10,000' to 20,000', and blue is 20,000' to 35,000'.

Jim

Edit to add: Except for the first (top left) the maps are forecasts.

Unfortunately you're at the mercy of the volcano and winds - they'll determine if your flight operates or not.
