PROMO: Spring 2010 Double Preferred Miles - Apr 13 to June 15

Over on the United forum, we're wondering why there's not been a thread started about this here...

I just saw email from US announcing DEQM (and double redeemable miles):

Get a jumpstart with double miles this spring*
Dividend Miles Jumpstart

Did we say double miles? We meant double miles that count toward Preferred status, and of course double miles toward award travel. All you have to do is register, book your trip and travel between April 13 and June 15, 2010.
The T&Cs are only on the website:

*Terms & conditions: You must register, book and travel between April 13 and June 15, 2010. You must register before you ticket your reservation to be eligible. Not combinable with any other offer. Jumpstart promotional miles count towards Preferred status. Bonus miles are applied to the base miles earned and do not reflect a class of service, Preferred flight or any other bonus. Flights must be operated by US Airways, US Airways Express and US Airways Shuttle. Please allow up to 2 weeks for bonus miles to be credited to your account. All Dividend Miles terms and conditions apply.

The promo code appears to be JS10.

Received an email also at 8:09 PM CST.

Thanks for posting. Been waiting for this for sometime. Ended up booking my flights with 5000 Miles round-trip on Delta yesterday to take advantage of Together We Fly promo.

exiled2tx Apr 13, 10 8:17 pm

Not sure if this is targeted or not. My wife got the email this evening. I however have not.

docr775 Apr 13, 10 8:23 pm

I did not receive the e-mail, but I was able to register. Cool beans.

uva185 Apr 13, 10 8:34 pm

GoodOmens Apr 13, 10 8:35 pm

Devyan1 Apr 13, 10 8:42 pm

Seems like it is NOT targetted since they have verbiage that may apply to non Dividend Miles members:

Not a member yet? This is a great time to join. You can earn more miles faster and more miles that count towards Preferred status. Join now and find out all about Dividend Miles and the benefits of being Preferred.

whatsthisbutton4 Apr 13, 10 9:00 pm

Don't Match, AA - do better!

Corylopsis Apr 13, 10 9:14 pm

We need AA to match this, so UA will follow then :P

tommyleo Apr 13, 10 9:44 pm

Yeeee-haaaaa!!!!! ^

I was not targeted, but I just signed up.

TRAVELBABE Apr 13, 10 9:46 pm

I, also, have only gotten 1 email, even though there are 4 of us in the family. Nothing in the terms & conditions say it's targeted, so it probably just takes the computer time to send out millions of emails.

tommyleo Apr 13, 10 10:08 pm

OK, who's going to be the first to post their mileage run? :D

I've been watching PHX-MUC for a while, now that this is in play, I might do it. Usually I'm having to do this in winter...

chewy3 Apr 13, 10 10:21 pm

Let the games begin.

I'm thinking of a one day DCA-CLT-SFO-PHL-DCA for roughly 15060 w/ my 50%bonus (and aprox 12040 EQM).

kopflyer Apr 13, 10 10:41 pm

Booked a 10,000 eqm MR yesterday because I didn't see this forthcoming. A little miffed at myself for not waiting a day...

Say what?

holtju2 Apr 13, 10 11:31 pm

Thanks US! Not going to fly on US but will hope that AA/DL/CO/UA would match.

Surgee Apr 14, 10 1:09 am

So, because the T&C's say "cannot combined with any other offer," I would hope this promotion trumps the current US Airways Mastercard DBRDM/DBEQM promotion for new bookings, as this new promo is better and more inclusive, and you can't stack them for Triple RDMs and EQMs.

It sort of makes the mastercard promo obsolete....no?

If you're registered for both promos, and you book one of the routes eligible for the mastercard bonus with a normal mastercard, it seems possible that US would only give you Double RDM, and could withhold the Double EQM....

EDIT: Interestingly, the mastercard offer's T&C's does not say anything about not being eligible for combining with other offers.

Could one get TEQM??? (QRDM for CPs)

USFreak Apr 14, 10 1:11 am

Free 90 day Club membership and now DEQM's.....yea, Tempe must be hurtin' enough to pay the bills to try and lure back customers they ran off several years ago.......bankruptcy in 6 months when all of this fails.

Too Early Bird

Just hate the timing on this because I/we have four flights booked already (one TATL)that fall between that time period- and only possibility of one paltry AGS-MCO to book for May (a little help). :(

Try to change your dates/flights, it might work as a new booking. Although YMMV as to how US treat this.

honeytoes Apr 14, 10 5:26 am

WOOOO!

Actually, when they did this last year, a trip that I rebooked at a lower fare DID count in the DEQM promo. I might try that again this time around.

Same... already have 1 CLT-PBI-PHL and 2 PHL-DTW-PHL booked. Does US Airways ever waive that term and allow the flights to get included?

How did your rebooking work? Did you change dates, flights, routes? I'm thinking about paying the change fee and re-confirming on an earlier flight - if that would reset the clock for me.

For me, everything was the same with regard to trip details. I happened to notice that the fare had dropped DRASTICALLY, so I rebooked. When I say "drastically," I mean that even though there was a $250 change fee, it still ended up giving me a voucher for the difference. ^

Crazyhotelguy Apr 14, 10 6:32 am

Got the email late last night and registered... Still working on renewing my Diamond status on DL, so will still only use US if the fares are drastically different.

newbiztraveler Apr 14, 10 7:28 am

I highly recommend that everyone print off any registration confirmation and save it. Last spring, US had another promo and many people on the forum had trouble actually getting the bonus miles.

Makes 3 off us. :( I understand why they do it this way but it still bums me out. I wonder if I were to, as honeytoes did, try to rebook due to a lower fare (even though it's only $10 different), pay the change fee and get the DEQMs.

Either way, it's good and will lead me to book a few MRs which is what they want. ^

I started a recent thread saying it can't be a good situation at US if they keep selling all these miles or giving them away for free. However, several posters pointed out that cost-per-mile isn't much anyway for US.

Anyone know how effective US IT is at screening out bookings before you register? I inquire since if I recall many got DEQM for earlier bookings.. just curious.

BigErn Apr 14, 10 8:56 am

Is this promotion good for ALL travel within this time period or the first trip booked?

I agree with that, I'm a segment qualifier...that would be more meaningful for me. The extra miles will be nice though, I'll be booking 3 trips for May when i get back in the office tomorrow.

On a serious note, why do you have to register for these types of promotions? I don't understand the why you have to do it on some things, but others are automatic (such as the 4Q promotion last year to get status quicker).

I think some of it has to do with getting people in the habit of reading the emails. If they can show a boost in email readership then they can charge more for the ad space on them. I read every single US email just in case there's a good promo buried in one.

It should be good for ALL travel booked and flown within that period. Last year they had the promo a little earlier in the year and I racked up about 60k EQM all told. Could have done more if I'd tried :)

dcpatti Apr 14, 10 9:23 am

Anyone know if there are two people on one PNR and both registered for the promo, do both get the DEQM or just the one who booked it?
