Lightbulb Double bonus for purchased miles (Another round: Feb-March 2010)

US Airways DM is offering starting this month Feb 2010 until end of March 2010 a double bonus miles for purchased miles.

So for $ 1,478.00 you get 100k miles instead of 50K.

This offer is valid once for each account during the promotion period.

Looks like "only" buy miles, not share miles this round. Still getting silly with the amount of miles they're pushing out.

Did the price per mile go up? I seem to recall December's deal being cheaper

The price DID go up

The miles are a quarter-cent more expensive (per mile) than the previous offers.

It's Buy & Gift. I didn't look at the terms - can a single account end up with 200K again this way?

The higher cost of the miles adds about $103 to the previous 100% bonus, $1478 plus the ticket taxes/fees still isn't horrible by any means for a C ticket to Europe.

Absolutely. If I weren't sitting on all those miles from the last promotion (plus that 250% one), I'd be back at the trough.

To me it is still a great deal. I needed to fly urgently to Tokyo next week starting my journey from ZRH on LX. With this promotion I got my First class ticket to NRT for around Euro 1k. However, If I pay cash for this ticket I must pay almost Euro 15k Huge savings and still enjoy LX excellent First class seat and service on such long flight.

FYI US DM has a great advantage over AAadvantage miles purchases: they post for you the bonus miles immediatly, unlike AA they post them for you after 6 to 8 weeks from completing transaction so you can not benfit from the miles for sudden trips

Yeah, there is that.

Also, if they keep offering double miles for purchase every two months, people will stop taking the bait. Then what? Triple miles?

Does it also make you nervous when AA sells $1bn of miles in 2012 to Citi now /
Delta selling miles to Amex for 0.8cpm for $1-2bn?

I think US is getting it direct from the customer, instead of from the banks like UA/AA/DL.

When UA came out of bankruptcy, Chase offered double miles for tax payments for a full year!
It came to 1.25cpm cost, lower than this offer.

Can't wait for that offer!

US has done that as well -- it's why they moved from Bank of America to Juniper/Barclay's a couple years ago.

Deals like this are designed for one thing: Raise cash. Make no mistake -- US management would not otherwise be doing it.
