Update 08APR2014: Star Alliance Awards must have been booked by March 30, 2014. They are no longer available through US. This thread is mostly useful for historic purposes, and discussing issues such as schedule changes/route changes that affect FTers existing *A awards booked before 3/31/2014.

Discussion on using US miles to book oneworld awards is available here.

If you are looking for discussion on US's new partner awards that use various partners not in oneworld (many of whom are former *A partners), see the devoted thread on using US miles to book NON-oneworld partners here.

------------------------

Update 07JAN14: American Airlines award tickets bookable online on usairways.com or through reservation.

  • Award travel must be wholly on American Airlines or a combination of American Airlines and US Airways.
  • American Airlines awards cannot be combined with any of our current partner.
  • American Airlines award travel chart (PDF)

Please see the devoted thread on using US miles to book AA here.

That is quite interesting to me. Award bookings on RJ using US miles have been largely unavailable in the past two years or so anyway. Why this extra special note now?

QR and RJ have been "temporarily unavailable" for years.

In the not too distant future, they'll both be available again! Of course, it will be with AAdvantage miles converted from Dividend Miles

Good post although I'd rather not see it.

I get the above, with the bolded bit being the ones that I can never remember if they are collected on award tickets or not. Some of the US taxes/fees aren't unless fuel surcharges are collected, but I can't remember the status of those three. In any case, it seems that your taxes/fees are too high.

Sorry, I goofed up with the above entry. The above entry made me think of our taxes for our award flight, 2 pax: STL-ORD-FRA (lay-over)-PVG(destination)-NRT-DEN-STL. We paid $ 159.30 each in taxes.
US immigration, customs and APHIS fee are correct.
Sep 11th security fee: 7.50 (listed in # 15830 as 2.50)
Germany Air Transportation Tax: 54.70
Germany Passenger Service 40.40 (listed in #15830 as 25.90)
China Airport fee: 14.50
Japan Passenger Security fee: 5.30
Japan Passenger Service facilities 10.70

We are transiting Japan, the fees seem to be adequate; but Germany's are higher. I march this past this forum before I'll call US Air.
Thanks.

If you have a stopover in Germany (i.e., are there for more than 24 hours), you're subject to the higher rate of taxation, so the amounts you give are correct. If it's a simple connection (avoid the word layover, as it seems to confuse people), then the taxes are too high.

Thanks for that info. Yes, we are staying longer than 24 hrs in Germany.
Sorry, I am not yet fluent in ff lingo; there are constantly new expressions.

I've got a weird one. Received a txt saying my FRA-LGW is cancelled (about to do NRT-FRA today). Clicked on the link they gave... that says it is running! Heading off to check-in shortly, hopefully get it sorted then...

single ticket and EU protection - nothing too much to worry about hopefully (or at least you'll be well looked after / compensated for your troubles)
LHR/MEL/Europe FF is online now

Yeh, hopefully they can confirm the dealio when we check-in. TXT says cancelled, but online says running. We shall see! Either way, not fussed. Our original flight FRA-LGW was actually the day before, and that got cancelled and we got shifted onto the flight we're on now. They don't seem to like LGW! Worst case we may have to goto LHR... best case, our original (well, new original) flight runs

Issues Booking TK

Anyone had issues w TK lately? Looking to book the IST MLE leg. United and ANA show 2 in business available but agents are US air agents saying no availability.

My CLT>MUC stop>IST>MLE dest>SIN>PEK>MUC>CLT was looking good!

If I can't do that leg anyone have any good ideas for business or first that usually show availability to ultimately get to MLE through SIN from east coast US.

Thanks in advance.

The IST-MLE segment is a known issue, stemming from married segment logic on a through flight.
