Update 08APR2014: Star Alliance Awards must have been booked by March 30, 2014. They are no longer available through US. This thread is mostly useful for historic purposes, and discussing issues such as schedule changes/route changes that affect FTers existing *A awards booked before 3/31/2014.

Discussion on using US miles to book oneworld awards is available here.

If you are looking for discussion on US's new partner awards that use various partners not in oneworld (many of whom are former *A partners), see the devoted thread on using US miles to book NON-oneworld partners here.

------------------------

Update 07JAN14: American Airlines award tickets bookable online on usairways.com or through reservation.

  • Award travel must be wholly on American Airlines or a combination of American Airlines and US Airways.
  • American Airlines awards cannot be combined with any of our current partner.
  • American Airlines award travel chart (PDF)

Please see the devoted thread on using US miles to book AA here.

I do not understand it in beginners. Please tell.
Momo,

I live in Japan and can explain it in Japanese to you if you like. Send me a message and we can arrange a phone call.

I want to book 1 seat in coach on LH413 on 12/28/13 from EWR to MUC but DM Desk says it is not available. ANA Tool shows availability.

Just wondering if US DM is seeing some of the issues UA MP experiences when trying to book (coach) award seats on LH metal. In the case of UA MP, you have to have the web support desk book it for you. Does US DM have something similar ways to get this flight?
US Starnet blocking like the old UA. See this:

I recently had similar problems with LH & SQ. When there were 3 or more seats available, US could see space. With just 2 seats US could not.

Reports are that this time it really is LH withdrawing all their availability starting on 01NOV2013, not US blocking seats that would be available in Starnet.

It makes sense from LH's point of view with the merger in sight.

How recent was this? Apparently, LH started blocking on 01MAR2013.

And when was the flight date? Before or after 01NOV2013?

How do you know this? Especially the dates.

Flights were in December 2013. I started planning something mid March and was able to get every LH flight I wanted, however as of this past week, nothing was available. All the flights I wanted had 2 seats.

The only UA routes that I've heard being blocked using US miles are GUM-ROP/SPN...

From posts on www.vielfliegertreff.de, a lot of people have experienced this and somebody also quoted a US agent with specifics.
