US AIRWAYS ANNOUNCES NON-STOP SERVICE TO BANKRUPTCY

US AIRWAYS ANNOUNCES NON-STOP SERVICE TO BANKRUPTCY

Arlington, VA. - US Airways Group (U) today announced new non-stop service
to bankruptcy in a continuing effort to compete with other airlines flying
east coast routes. "We're definitely excited," cited an anonymous US
Airways executive, "and we feel that with this new nonstop service, our
passengers will enjoy a greater flying experience - whether it be with
United, Southwest, jetBlue, or even their local taxi cab companies."

In what is being viewed as an "aggressive move" by Wall Street analysts, US
Airways has announced cancellation of all flights to Florida. "With the
airplanes being constantly full with passengers, our expenses are out of
control," said one US Airways representative. "By canceling all of these
flights, we will save an estimated $42.00 PER DAY by not using as many
trash bags, Attache magazines, and coffee stirrers. We will now begin
flying 35
daily nonstop flights from Philadelphia's Terminal B to Philadelphia's
Terminal A. Our first class passengers on board these flights will be given
complimentary wetnaps and seatbelts."

In another surprise move, US Airways announced it will paint a new livery
on each aircraft in its fleet within the next 2 years. The traditional US
Airways American flag will now be replaced with a white flag symbolizing a
total surrender to other airlines. "We also have a design team working on a
paint scheme that will be painted on all our aircraft. It will be a picture
of 40-60 US Airways pilots standing shoulder-to-shoulder in solidarity...in
the unemployment line, which has long been the tradition here at US Airways."

Brent Davis, a 15 year US Airways pilot, agrees. "I was hired in 1987 and
since then I have seen the bad times and the good ones. The bad times, such
as being furloughed 293 times are hard. But the 148 hours of flying that I
have done here since 1987 have been wonderful. I'll never forget that day
in June of 1990 when we actually turned a profit for the entire day...that
was awesome."

US Airways also announced they will shift their strategic focus from
business travelers to deadheading crewmembers. "With 60 to 90 deadheading
crewmembers aboard each aircraft, our 3 or 4 revenue paying passengers will
enjoy the added safety of knowing that if all of the 30 or 40 captains
become incapacitated, there will still be 5 or 10 more on board able to
land the aircraft, provided, of course, that they were not notified via the
GTE Airphones on the back of the cabin seats that they were furloughed
while enroute."

US Airways will also begin service to Chapter 7, with a short layover in
Chapter 11.

Of course they still won't be able to depart or arrive on-time.

I believe I will have to take the same view, it is not as funny as it is intended to be. You have several die-hard fans of US here, now if you want to write about service cutbacks on CO or DL, then you might get a laugh out of most of us.

Besides, if Bankruptcy were a destination, flight would only be one way. Or you could have mentioned something like USAir adding more Caribbean destinations to open offshore accounts in the event of bankruptcy. Now that would be funny.

What totally boggles my mind is how this is all of a sudden news. In the past seven days US Airways stock is down roughly 40%. What material changes have occurred in the past 7 days ... NONE. Everyone who knew anything about US's situation already knew they were in danger of bankruptcy, especially if they didn't get ATSB loans (and the concessions that the ATSB would require to go with the loans). I know US published their 10K stating such, but like I said, anyone who knew the situation already knew that, it wasn't news.

In fact, yesterday I read or heard somewhere that the reason US is bouncing back somewhat in the stock market now is because folks are realizing that the potential bankruptcy had already been built into the $5/share price and there was no reason it should have dropped as much as it did in the past seven days ... of course I doubt it will get back up to the $5/share level until they work out some of the concessions and announce them publicly.

Of course the part about Chapter 7 bankruptcy is just stupid, it will never happen, the airline will be sold whole or in pieces before it ever came anywhere near that, most of the pieces of US are just too valuable to other airlines for that to occur.

Beckles, I agree with you 100% -- there's been little actual news in the past week. Chapter 7 is a VERY remote possibility -- they'll sell assets before that happens. It's far too premature for any of us to be worrying about miles disappearing.

This is funny, at least IMHO.

But please do not forget USAirways' great employees who want to make a difference. Would the author be so kind, to send this mail to the management or the head of marketing!?
