Transferring Miles between programs

Hey all,

Got an unusual request I need help with. My mom has about a few thousand of US Air miles. She is disabled and does not get out anymore. Is there anyway I can close her account and tranfer the miles to my account. She is fine with this. Can this be done? Thanks for you input.

Ricky

From the Conditions of Membership:
"3. Miles are not transferable and may not be combined or pooled among Dividend Miles members."

Apparently, your mother does not have enough points for any type of regular award. If that is the case, she can use her points for magazine subscriptions. Typically, a year's subscription to some of the most popular magazines cost 600-1000miles.

It's unfortunate that airlines don't make more of an incentive to use up 'orphaned' miles like these since they remain as liabilities on the balance sheet. Most airlines now have expiration of points if you don't post any activity in x number of years. I'm too lazy to look up US's policy on this...(if there is one?)

Last I heard points expire in 3 years if there is no activity in the account.
