The one route you knew had to be out there ... 802 miles

CLT-YUL, 802 miles ...

Guess we knew it had to be out there somewhere. There's no "grace" mileage on the 799 mile upgrade certs, right?

Since these are connecting flights even, it's hardly worth upgrading for what it will cost in certs ...

This is exactly why the NA region should be divided into zones. East of the Mississippi = zone 1, Mississippi to mountain time zone = zone 2, the rest zone 3.

Travel from one zone to the next = 1 coupon.

I'd love it but I think it's kind of generous to fly from Miami to Boston on one upgrade cert. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Simple, just divide the country 6 ways like the NFL! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Instead of AFC/NFC, though, just Northeast, Southeast, North Central, South Central, Northwest, Southwest.

Seriously, I think one of the awfulest things about the merger and the ensuing 800-mile certs is that I'd bet 85% of USAirways' existing routes are less than 500! That's why they set the old certs up that way and were more generous, as flying a route like I used to do (MYR-PIT) was less than 500 direct, but segment mileage was like 159 & 368 through Charlotte.

If, though, the total is less than 800 and you only use one United coupon, then that would not be such a bad thing. But if we;d have to use TWO for that run, that would really be a bummer. :-(
