AMERICAN AIRLINES AND US AIRWAYS ANNOUNCE FIRST PHASE OF MARKETING RELATIONSHIP

ARLINGTON, Va., July 27, 1998 -- US Airways Dividend Miles members and American Airlines AADVANTAGE members will be able to claim awards for travel on both airlines beginning Aug. 1 as part of their newly formed marketing relationship.

American's Admirals Club members and US Airways Club members will also enjoy reciprocal access to each others' clubs,
also beginning Aug. 1. American Airlines has 47 Admirals Clubs throughout its system, including Latin America, Europe and Japan, and US Airways operates 26 clubs throughout the United States.

"The initial phase of this broad-based marketing agreement with American Airlines will offer our Dividend Miles members the
ability to choose from a wider array of travel award destinations," said Rakesh Gangwal, president and chief executive officer of US Airways Inc. "We look forward to strengthening the foundation on which this relationship is built, bringing greater value to our Dividend Miles program."

"American Airlines AADVANTAGE members will receive immediate benefits from this agreement," said Donald J. Carty, chairman and CEO of American Airlines. "They will have the opportunity to choose travel awards to a number of East Coast markets we don't serve, as well as such exciting international destinations as Rome and Amsterdam from US Airways' gateways. In the near future, they will also earn AADVANTAGE miles for travel in the Boston-New York-Washington corridor on US Airways Shuttle flights."

American Airlines and US Airways will introduce the next phase of their marketing relationship in the near future, enabling
US Airways Dividend Miles members and American Airlines AADVANTAGE members who belong to both programs to combine miles when claiming travel awards on either airline.
For example, a traveler would be able to combine miles from the AADVANTAGE program and the Dividend Miles program to claim an award from a city served by US Airways, such as
Savannah, Ga., to any American Airlines destination, including Hawaii, Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro and the United Kingdom.

AADVANTAGE members will also soon be able to earn both AADVANTAGE miles and Dividend Miles on certain US Airways Shuttle flights between Washington, D.C., New York and Boston.

US Airways, US Airways Express, US Airways Shuttle and MetroJet fly to more than 207 destinations throughout the world with a fleet of 662 aircraft. American Airlines and American Eagle serve 289 destinations worldwide with a fleet of 844 aircraft.

For additional information on the American Airlines AADVANTAGE program, contact American Airlines at 1-800-882-8880 or for information on US Airways' Dividend Miles program, contact US Airways at 1-800-428-4322.
