OK, I've edited post #5 to summarize (as best I can interpret) all suggestions to date. Please advise if I've gotten anything wrong, and please fill me in on the ratio for 1001 Frontier miles.

1001 Frontier appears to be 184 US DM.

I just opened an Asia miles account, added it to points.com, and did an exchange from Dividend Miles into Asia miles (to do the 10/4/1 as described previously). However, I almost immediately got an email saying my transfer had been cancelled, as they cannot do it.

Could the problem be that my Asia miles needs a day or two to become official (maybe trying to transfer in 8 minutes after opening was too soon?)?

Anyone experience this?

Thanks.

I had the same issue, emailed customer support and they told me they corrected the problem. Apparently my US Air account was not fully registered in their system. Send them an email and they should take care of it. Tried to transfer afterwards but the miles have not yet posted. Not sure if it takes some time for the miles to post, if not will just transfer something else.

Is it possible to share miles on points.com? The official rules say you can share miles on both usairways.com and points.com, but I don't see where that is an option on points.com.

After swapping DM miles out to other accounts, do I have to swap it back to get a hit, or the swapping out counts?

Into. I believe the sole hit for spending miles is miles for magazines. Every other hit requires you to earn miles.

Is it allowed to ask to share miles with someone (and split the cost)? Does FT normally allow that kind of agreement, or should that be done elsewhere?

Beltway and others,
Here might be another way for points.com

I just exchanged 5 U.S. Airways miles to 1 Frontier miles (subtracting US instead of adding) and it appears in my account as

9/14/2011 09/14/11 EXCHANGE MILES -5 (with the check mark next to the bonus)

So I think this will count for a hit too if you don't have the 1001 Frontier to
go to 184 US.

No. The rules expressly say "Earn 1 hit when you swap other points into Dividend Miles at points.com." An outbound transfer does not count.
