Minimum connection time on UA
Is there any place on UA's website where the minimum connection times are listed?
For my upcoming mileage-run, I have planned a short connection at RNO (arriving from SFO and departing to SFO on a new ticket within 56 minutes) and at LAX (arriving from SFO and departing to LAS on the same ticket within 38 minutes). Until some weeks ago I was able to book these connections on the UAL website, but now they are gone. I will be traveling with no luggage at all, so that won't matter, and stay on UA mainline all the time. Any idea if I can make that connections? Greetings - Dirk |
These are available in the PDF version of the electronic timetable
http://www.uatimetable.com/United.pdf on page 2, upper left-hand corner, "How to build your own connections". edited to add: Good luck with those LH M&M min segments http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif. I have been working on a C RTW and penciled in (SYD-) SFO-RNO-SFO-RNO-LAX-LAS-DEN-COS-DEN-PHX-TUS-PHX-DEN on one portion for 45,000 LH M&M status miles. Weather in SFO, and possibly in RNO, along with general system delays might cause some problems. If you can arrange some of these for a week-end it might be easier? djohannw - You won't have any trouble at RNO: the inbound aircraft from SFO is the same outbound aircraft to SFO.
Where you could have a problem is any ongoing connection after you return to SFO. If the inbound to RNO is 2 hours late, your outbound will be impacted and could cause you to misconnect at SFO if you have a tight connection there. |
I've oftened wondered if those on a mileage run have used the minimum connection times to arrange flights with tight connections late at night to get a free/reduced price hotel room from UA when the tight connection is not made due to UA's fault?

I padded my schedule in SFO for the connection with close to two hours (1:42 exactly). But a two-hour delay would surely bust my plans... Greetings - Dirk |
Unfortunately, when the weather impacts SFO, a two hour delay is always a possibility. Just hope there are no low ceilings the day you transit SFO.

Fortunately with the reduced flight schedules, SFO delays have been much reduced this winter.
