Plastic everything
Just flew to LHR from ORD. Noticed that not only is UA using plastic knives--they are now also using plastic forks and spoons. This was in both F and C.
|
Was there any red meat on the menu?
BTW, has the competition on the North Atlantic slipped so much that UA can actually get away with something like this in F/C? |
Yup, sure are. Had the same last month LHR-ORD too. Funny, ORD-IAH in F only has a plastic knife.
My friend who is a CSD at BA, says they have exactly the same, so it ain't just UA. Definately cheapens the experience, IMHO. |
I think this is due to UK law, not United.
Not that I think it is good... |

I had the same all plastic on ORD-SFO, so unless the plane was loaded in UK, this doesn't look like a UK rule. On the other hand I had metal knife and spoon on the outbound SFO-ORD, so maybe it really was loaded in the UK.
Both flights in C. |
The UK does in fact prohibit any metal utensils on aircraft arriving in or departing from the UK. That doesn't stop airlines from using plastic only on other routes as well...

Last month in C it was plastic knive and metal fork & spoon SFO-FRA, and all plastic LHR-SFO.

This is indeed a UK regulation that went into effect in October. I was unfortunately flying LHR-JFK on Air India in F the week this came into effect and the caterer ran out of plastic forks and knives to upload. Hence, our International First Class meal was served very elegantly on china with 13 plastic teaspoons!
