Check in at SIN
I am arriving at 10pm on a SQ flight and then leaving on the UA flight the next morning at 7am.
Does anyone know whether I could check in then at the transit area or do I have to wait until they are open at 5am? If I had to wait until the next morning, I think I might have a tough time accessing any of the lounges to stay overnight without a boarding pass. Last time I was turned down access to the SATS lounge with a UA Y boarding pass and my AC*SE card [Star Gold] saying that only C/F pax can enter. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif I am still hoping that my upgrade will clear in advance so if I am able to check in early, I could try and use the SQ lounge. I checked and there are XC seats [which i thought was a pretty good indication of NC], then I called UA and they said it's still on the waitlist but the flight is wide open. |
I made 2 trips to SIN in the past 5 weeks. On my Jan trip, the UA agent in Business (*Gold can use the business line even for coach tickets--mine was coach E+) gave me a pass for the SATs lounge. For my recent trip, the line to check in (in Business line) took a while so there was not enough time to use the lounge. Show your *Gold card & ask for a pass to the SATs lounge.

Others may be able to give better info, but to the best of my knowledge you will have to wait until the following morning to check-in. As such, with that kind of layover, I would highly recommend popping into town for a bite to eat at Lau Pa Sat and a stretch of the legs or even a few hours sleep in the transit hotel.

I called UA(SIN)in Nov/Dec about the possiblity of early check-in in Singapore. They told me that they only open 4-5ish am. In fact, I once arrived just before 5 am and the check-in counters were not ready.
If you do NOT clear customs you MIGHT have a shot at getting a boarding pass from the transit counter. If you are then lucky enough to get a business class boarding pass at that time, you can enter the Silver Kris lounge. My suggestion, though, is to go have fun around town. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif [This message has been edited by ddddd1 (edited 02-24-2002).] |
Perhaps you can check in with SQ at your original departure point. I did this with an all UA ticket on run DEN-SFO-SIN-HKG, got boarding ticket for all legs. Then spent night in Transit Hotel. You still need to approach Transit Desk in morning if you have checked baggage.

I'm having a full day in HKG before leaving for SIN so I don't think I'll have the energy to head into town when I arrive at SIN! Looks like one won't be able to get their boarding passes until 5am. I guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Ive been able to check in very late, but I was flying F and asked the Concierge at my point of departure to make special arrangements for me, and it worked out just fine.
Cant SQ check you in for a UA flight? They probably wont be able to clear your upgrade, but they should at least be able to give you your originally assigned seat. |
Not sure whether SQ can check me in at HKG. However, if my upgrade doesn't clear, there's no point since I'll need UA to put me on the DM list and I won't get access to the Silver Kris lounge anyways.
I'll just try my luck out by flashing my Star Gold card... |
Check in opens at 0430. I would suggest reserving a room at the terminal 1 Transit Hotel. Rooms are rented in six hour blocks at about $38 US or $55 Singapore. Reservations are required.
[email protected] for internet reservations. I have used the hotel on my "Singapore mileage runs. DO NOT clear customs. The hotel is in the "secure äreä of the terminal. Just follow the signs. It is about a 8 min walk. The SATS lounge is a nice quiet place to wait after 0430 check in. You will be given an invitation with Gold card or business class ticket. Check in takes a bit longer now because all hand carried bags are opened and checked with an ion detector, Then x-rayed as before. I would be at the gate for check in at 0545. "Last trip was 16-18 Feb, so information is fairly current. |
