Lavatory question
I was on a 767-200 (#935 LAX-HNL(yesterday) and they did not let us use the lavatory behind the cockpit door - a full first class with only one lavatory. I assume that this is due to the new security policy. It was not as bad as I thought. However, next week, I will be on a three-class 777 to BKK. What are they going to do with both lavatory for its first class being right behind the cockpit door? Has anyone had any experiences?

In my experience, the decision to close the lavatory by the cockpit door is entirely up to the discretion of the captain. Just like the decision as to whether or not to turn on "channel 9".
It has been rare, on my flights, for this lavatory to be closed. |
Lavatory available on F, behind cockpit, two weeks ago on 777 going ORD to SFO.
Crew was WONDERFUL. I love UA flight attendants. I am repulsed by CRJs (and UX). |
Both first class lavatories available firts class FRA>IAD. Service was wonderful.

Flew DEN-ORD on a three class 777...configured with only 10 F Suites and a separate crew quarters. The flight attendant in F was excellent and I asked her why we couldn't use the F lav next to the cockpit. She said the pilot informed her not to let anyone past the curtain. She found this to be terrible and was really upset about it.
But when you fly on the 777 configured with both F lavs next to the cockpit and the crew rest is one of the F suites, I don't think the captain has any choice but to keep both F lavs open. Seems like a strange way to increase perceived security to me. |
On an A319 flight from IAD to PDX last week, the lone lav in the tiny F cabin was indeed open, in fact it was available to any passenger in any cabin who wished to use it. Consequently, queues were fairly long at times.
However, about an hour before landing, two FAs gathered in the galley and unlatched at least two of the catering carts, which were then deployed to block access to the galley/lav area. No special announcements or admonitions were made. A moment later, the two pilots emerged from the cockpit successively and, I presume, took care of their business. Once this task had been successfully completed and the pilots back in the safe confines of the cockpit, the catering carts were returned to their proper places and the FAs re-disbursed to other sections of the plane. |

If you get a 777 without the bunkhouse(12 first class seat) both bathrooms are by the cockpit I don't see how they can not let you use it. |
I like the 777 lav in the coach section. They have a block of four. One is MUCH larger (the one with the door that doesn't fold in 2) and you can actually stand up, wash up... It must be 4ft x 4ft.
