Flying International real soon. When are they supposed to announce the next "milestone" date?

The most recent story I can find is dated Saturday on the AP wire:

Unless an agreement is reached, a strike is scheduled to begin at 12:01 a.m. EST Wednesday. President Bush, who will be in Asia until Friday, could ask Congress to intervene, but Congress has never stepped in to prevent an airline strike and isn't even in session this week.

Just depends if the union wants to push the strike issue come this Wednesday. Anyone's guess if they are making progress in negotiations.

A new AP story from Sunday evening:

CHICAGO -- United Airlines and its mechanics union met for the third straight day of contract talks, but by late Sunday had not agreed on a contract that would avert a strike scheduled for later this week.

Most interesting line from this story:
A notice posted Saturday on a union Website tells members to prepare to remove their tool boxes and other personal items from United property at the end of their last shift before the strike deadline.

When will these idiots learn. The unions killed Comair which is a fraction of what it was before. They have casued many jobs to be lost. The news reports that they have not had a raise for 8 years. They forget that they were given other compensation instead. Now they want to "catch up".

But, costumers react early(ier). UA probably already lost and still looses a lot more money (present and future ticket-income) until this is settled.

Except that this time the airline is in serious financial trouble and IMHO the loss of future ticket sales may hurt IAM employees more than they realize. I for one am not booking another UA flight until this is resolved. Hello AA.

I guess I'm more of a gambler. I booked and bought about 6 or 7 roundtrips on UA over the weekend. And am holding one for next Friday 2/22 SFO-MIA, returning Monday (for my parnter) and myself on Tuesday. Hopefully it will all work out. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. He is on an award ticket in F and I'm on an upgraded ticket. Last time we came back from Charlotte and UA had cancelled the flight, but protected both of us in F on a US airways flight. Hopefully they will do the same if this Miami flight doesn't work out. But then again who will take care of it, if their won't even be CSRs at the airport? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif
