Help: should I take 777 to Heathrow in Biz Class?
I'm curious if the 777 business class seats are lie flat, I'm looking at taking flight 918 to LHR.
Can you sleep in those seats?

The 'old' seats are like big recliners, I sleep well in them but they are not like a bed.

It is worth it take a 767 ex-ORD to LHR, so that you get lie flat.

I bought this for Feb under the assumption that the odds were very high I'd get the new 777. But lately UA is substituting the old ones. I will be most unhappy if that happens to me, especially if I can't pay to upgrade.

Only a handful of UAs 777s has the new seats and that won't change much till February. Also, the 2+4+2 config of the new 777s is ridiculous. I say stay away from the UA 777s all together.

Agree, I call these seats "coffins" and find them a far cry from the "pods" being used by other STAR carriers, or the new J/C seats being installed by ANA and Asiana. Having just flown across the Pacific twice in them on a 777, I do not look forward to the conversion. The seats are too narrow and have absolutely no functional storage space. Furthermore, one has no privacy whatsoever. Your seat mate is far too close with a very narrow arm rest/tray, and I find it eery having someone across the aisle and a row or two ahead staring at me all the time (and I guess me at them)! Whoever came up with this decision should be fired under the new regime. These must be the most uncomfortable and least functional C/J seats in the air today! Even in the sleep position they lack comfort. And I thought the 763s were bad...

Personally I really like the new config C class on all of UA's planes, but I do find the lack of privacy on the 777, downstairs on the 747, and even the 763 to be a bit annoying. Upstairs on the 747 is best. I also usually travel with friends so the climbing over each other issue is less awkward; when on business I have found that to be a bit annoying when seated in the window. But compared to any seat in Y, especially on the 747, I feel quite fortunate.
