Makes sense, given the stated routing. I'd have thought the evening flight SFO-LHR (930) would have been a better choice, but that wouldn't have allowed the return through DEN.

Of course, I'm not saying that just because I fly 930/931

When? It switches to 747s shortly for the spring/summer.

Actually, this season UA decided to put 747s on SFO-PEK/PVG and give 777s to both ORD-PEK/PVG and IAD-PEK. The only 747 flying this summer out of ORD is to HKG, NRT, and FRA (the 6:30 departure).

Sorry - don't know how I left that out. December 2010 for the ORD-PVG flight.; I'm guessing low probability still.

London based cabin crew on UA930 SFO-LHR last night said that they're going on training for the new config 777 shortly and have been told to expect it online around the end of April. The crew also said that they won't be doing LHR-SFO this summer (the route will be op'd by SFO based crew) as the LHR based crews will be covering LHR-DEN instead. So go figure - still not sure where the a/c will go, but it seems to be coming soon!

I'm an ORD based F/A and we have to take the new 777 training module online by 04/01. No word on whether the 777 will be coming through ORD, but as a reserve we have to be up to date on training for each aircraft as we can be assigned anywhere they need us.

Just out of curiosity, what is the training module for? Does it give you layouts of the cabin, or...?

Probably instructions for rebooting the AVOD system

Hello.
I'm wondering what happens when a new config. 777 is used on a route/day when F on the old cofig. was full.
The new config has 8f instead of 11f for the old 777 config.

I'm booked XF on LHR-SFO for jan 2011 and already 6 F seats are shown as taken ( not counting the pilot rest seat)
Between now and then ( 9 months ) it's entirely possible they will sell 3 more (putting them over the capacity of the new config.777 which is thougth to be taking this route)
So what happens?

Thanks for any replies^

What happens is that if it checks in full and there are still people waiting for seats some people will be downgraded or moved to other flights. They would likely downgrade upgraders first, followed by award tickets. And finally people on paid A fares and F fares (no way a full F fare would be downgraded). If you are downgraded you're owed some kind of downgrade compensation... a refund of miles for the difference of a one way XF ticket vs XC, and also most likely an e-cert or some other kind of customer relations compensation.

not sure if this was already made clear in earlier pages (didn't seem like it, but didn't check super-thoroughly), but crankyflier's discussion of the reconfig features confirmation from UA that Y will have AVOD

Lots of "reliable sources" reporting different things about AVOD. Yes, no, maybe, some. Guess we have to wait for someone, or UA, to go on the record.

I think cranky is about as credible as you can get, that is without having Glen jump on top of a check in counter at O'Hare and scream it.

I'm more likely to believe cranky
