Best Use of Systemwide 1K Upgrades for Domestic Traveler

Ok, the year is coming to a close.. and there are 3 1/2 months left of validity of my systemwide upgrades. Again, I failed to fly to Hawaii or Internationally and use them. I still have tons of North American Upgrades (well 7).. and 6 Systemwides...

Besides asking me to give them to you, what is the best use of these 6 upgrades between now and February. I know I may have one Costa Rica trip (RT) so that would be 2.. but I would hate to waste the other 4 on a LAX-SEA or LAX-ORD flight.. any ideas??

How about a 'winter escape' skiing in Colorado? DEN-COS RT would use up two!

Isn't a NA upgrade equivalent to a systemwide if you use it domestically (expect HI) ?

So I'd say there is really no way to "maximize" your systemwides if you aren't travelling internationally.

I have a need for a few systemwides myself but since you did not want us to ask.....

Give them to family, friends, or co-workers who are making long trips...

You could donate them to a charity organization or a church which does Missions Work.

Another thing you could do is trade someone a few of your SWU which expire in March 2002 for some which expire in 2003.

Just a thought.

No, no, no. You sell a white envelope on eBay and throw in the SWU's for free! And not that I was checking or anything, but it looks like they are currently selling these envelopes for around $170-200.

(I'm just kidding, too).

Make someone's day. Just walk into a line at the airport and upgrade a perfect stranger to Singapore or Paris.

When we flew to Paris a couple of weeks ago, they did not collect any SWUs on the way out so, on the way back we still had 4 SWUs that were expiring 11/30 and only three of us flying.

We met a lovely gentleman (with a lovely topcoat) in the train station in Paris. When we started chatting, we discovered that he was on our flight and used the 4th almost expiring SWU to upgrad him. It was I am sure as fun for me as it was for him.

You could visit our very own coupon connection. For internationally-based 1Ks, SWUs are very valuable but HK49s are worthless. I'd certainly be willing to offer a very favourable exchange rate, as I'm sure would other internationally-based 1Ks.

I would second MatthewClement's suggestion.

Go to the Coupon Connection here on Flyertalk, and trade your nearly expiring SWUs for a number of HK49 with far-off expirationg dates.

Since SWUs are more valuable than HK49s, you can wind up with more domestic upgrades than you had before.

I think you would get more satisfaction out making a trade with another FlyerTalker than you would if you simply gave them away.

Sell them on ebay using the "Auctions for America" feature.

Everyone wins... I think you might even be able to wright them off? Any tax people here to expand on that?
