Double miles question
The current double miles according to united.com allows us to "Earn double Mileage Plus® miles when you purchase and fly a qualifying roundtrip on United and United Express®. Offer valid for travel between October 4 and December 15, 2001."
My question is: if I begin a roundtrip on December 13 but don't complete it until December 28th, do I get double miles for the outbound portion? The way I read the promotion, the answer would be "yes, for all travel completed through December 15," but the "round trip" requirement seems odd to me. Does the double miles not apply to one-way or multi-segment itineraries? |
I have a feeling you'll only get the double miles on the outbound and not the return. I qualified for a double mile promotion earlier this year for flights from April 1 through June 15. I was on a flight that departed June 8 and returned June 24. I got double miles on the former, but not the latter. Darn. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

I happened to be discussing this promotion with the Prem Exec MPL Service Center and asked. Officially, a roundtrip must be completed within the qualifying dates (Oct 4-Dec 15) to get double miles credit. The double miles will post during a sweep following completion of the rountrip flight.
So, officially, your trip does not qualify for any double miles. It's possible you'll get some anyway. By the way, the website registration may not be reliable, because mine did not take according to the service center. They favor the toll-free call in method. Charles |
Oh joy, that's really great for us "out of towners" http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

RichardMel,
Probably you are already cleared if you're registered as living outside the US ! Only US registered customers have this requirement... others are automatically enrolled as their 'native ' UA web-site doesn't even have the possibility. |
RichardMel,
Don't worry. I am "in town", but my online registration for the US-Argentina promotion earlier this year failed for some reasons. After a single phone call to the UA MP hotline I got the double miles. UA's aim is to keep you with UA by giving double miles. Denying the double miles even if the registration procedure failed would be counterproductive. The intention of the registration procedure is to distinguish between "miles-addicts" and "others". The latter ones would likely fly UA again (or maybe not), with or without the promotion. So why to give them automatically double miles. The "addicts", however, need to be kept on track. Giving them the double miles pays off, no matter if they survived the (flawly) registration procedure. Your phone call to UA will provide significant evidence that you are likely to intensify your relationship with UA.
