Choosing seats on LH codeshare?

I must be missing something but I can't figure out how to seat selection for an LH flight booked through United. The Lufthansa site is really unintuitive

Thanks!

It cannot be done online. You have to phone Lufthansa. Note that if it's an intra-European flight, they do not allow advance seat assignments anyway.

For intercontinental call. For intraEurope use OLCI and you can pick your seats 23 hours before your flight.

In the past I used to call United and ask them to assign a seat for me (for intercontinental flights). They don't have access to seatmaps so they can't see what's available, but they should be able to make a request as see whether it is accepted or reject. However, this wouldn't always work are some of the agents apparently are not aware of how to do it.

The easier option is to call United and get the LH confirmation number, then call Lufthansa and request a seat assignment. For some reason you can't do this online. At 23-hours prior to departure you can OLCI and chose your seats (both intercontinental and intra-Europe). If I don't get the seats I want initially, I usually keep checking the website every few hours after the initial OLCI and you can keep making changes to the seat selection until the departure.

You don't even need the LH PNR. Lufthansa can easily look it up by flight number, and give you the PNR if you really want it.

that's exactly what i did, didn't even know the LH number, just the UA codeshare which they found easily. The agent even described which seats were good and which weren't so good and gave me a pretty good seat.

You can OLCI on LH international too. They do not open the first two rows of coach until check in.
