RCC Security
Admitedly, I have very little experience, but from what I've seen before last week, al one needed to do was flash an RCC card at the agent to gain entry; no close inspection or swiping was ever done. For anyone who has flown since last week, is this being changed at all, or is it not a big deal, since in order to GET to the club, you've got to pass through security?

Thread on this subject on CO board re President's Club. Same answers as RCC. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

What is the security risk of letting someone into the RCC who shouldn't be there? Or, put differently, if someone is "dangerous," how are they more dangerous in the RCC than in another part of the airport?

Good point.
For some reason the RCC club in MSP has been closed.. not sure if it reopened... Maybe they are concerned, who knows.. |
Seems that the only reason to close would be to free up staff for security type work?

Are they still allowing check-ins at the RCCs?

Yes, RCC check-in is still allowed, at least for the RCC's outside security.
As for the RCC's inside security, I'm not sure whether a ticket (and not a boarding pass) is enough to get past security. |
Yesterday at IAD (1k room) I was told that RCC no longer accepts new members, just renewals and the whole concept was supposed to be rethought.
The same information was given at JFK-Term.7 when asked about what could happen from now on. Probably the whole concept would change for next year. Eventually with less customers admittance could be granted for 1K customers. After all with *A Gold one is admitted. |
It varies by airline, and I'm not sure what United's specific policy is, but for both US Airways and Delta you must have either a boarding pass, paper ticket, or E-Ticket receipt (either on travel agency/airline paper or e-mail/confirmation screen print-out) to get past security. So if you have one of the latter two and have only carry-ons, you should be able to go through security and check-in at the gate or club. And the gate lines will be very short with almost everyone checking in at the counters, so you won't have much of a wait (and agents will have more time to help with waitlists). Two disclaimers: (1) Policy I just stated is specific to Delta and US Airways; United Policy may differ; and (2) [and most importantly...] sometimes airline agents (this case security agents) aren't familiar with the by-the-book or common-acceptance policy, and might not let you through without a boarding pass, even if company policy says etkt receipt is okay.
