Food Standards

Last night I was on flight 257, which was delayed over 3 hours due to the DEN weather.

Once we left, they announced that this is normally a meal flight, however since the meals have been on the plane for the long duration, etc. that there would not be able to serve the food. They mentioned something about the United food serving policy. Of course in Y, mystery boxes were given to all.

What exactly is this policy that they mentioned?

The policy is to cite "policy" when someone forgets to cater a meal flight.

Just kidding. I don't know. But the cynical part of me wouldn't be surprised.

ncorman - This happened to me recently on a flight from DEN-SEA. The flight was delayed and the passengers played musical airplanes because of mechanical problems. Five hours later we were back on the original plane, ready for takeoff.

The purser informed those of us in first class that the meals had been sitting in the oven for "God knows how long" and a GateGourmet tester indicated they had been above "safe" temperatures. We were told we could either "risk" eating these meals, or feast on the Y mystery boxes.

Since I was beyond hungry, I "risked it" and by all accounts have survived to tell about it. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

So, to answer your question, it appears that there are food standards regulations about how long food can sit open or in the oven. It's a policy that makes sense, IMHO.
