Now I can finally look into booking a trip to HKG. That used to be one of the hardest routes to get confirmed in advance.

Interesting, got an easy update call this AM that my BKK-NRT cleared but I am waitlisted on the outbound LAX-BKK.

My June SFO NRT just cleared, finally, as well.
Also, looks like the 747s will be back on 837/838 starting in early April!

Are you excited about the 747s being back? I try to avoid them like the plauge when I can get a 777.

In C, the 747 is much preferable to the 777 (the opposite is true in Y). Many 747s have been converted vs zero 777s, and even the old config 747 beats the 777 comfortably IMO.

IAD/BKK -- all segment upgrades cleared

My final upgrades IAD/BKK 5/13-5/21 cleared today. I have never had, after 10 trips to BKK, the NRT/BKK and return segments clear this early. In fact I think in every case upgrades were cleared a day or so in advance or at the gate.

OT: I don't think the "Trans-Pac Award Inventory Opened Up" thread should have been merged into this upgrade one...

I'm also not sure it should have been merged - award and upgrade inventory are two different beasts. BUT, it looks like UA released an ENORMOUS amount of both, especially for TPAC routes. There are USA-NRT-BKK flights that have XF5, XC4, NC3 or more. I just paid $150 to get 95,000 miles back for a standard F award that I was able to convert very easily into a saver XF. In months of paying close attention to BKK award inventory (and years of casual attention) I've NEVER seen it this loose.

It's almost as if UA has given up any hope of actually selling premium class seats on these routes. Grab them while they last!

(Mods: maybe change title of thread to emphasize the recent TPAC upgrade/award loosening?)

Thumbs up

Our SFO-HKG-SIN and HKG-SFO SWU upgrades cleared today (for 2 of us!). SIN-HKG cleared yesterday, still waiting for DEN-SFO but it doesn't matter, I am happy. ^^^
