UA 888 PEK - SFO; Equip change from 777 XP to XI/XC possible?
Is there any likelihood of an equipment swap from the scheduled 777 XP to 777 XI/XC on this route?

Swaps are always a possibility. That's why I never book 9HJ any more - we've already been burned once.

Yes, it is possible judging by the distance. If it is longer distance like ORD-PEK and ORD-PVG, it will certainly use a XP.

I have been in 9HJ on a IAD-LAX leg before, on the XI/XC, and it was indeed tight.
Is there some way to determine the recent history of which aircraft actually flew the route?

I'd stick with what you have. 9H/J on the XP are great. In the (probably unlikely) event of an equipment swap you'll still be in a C mini-cabin, unlike the crew who will be back in E++.
