Need help with IAD PVG NRT IAD routing
 

Can someone help me with IAD PVG NRT IAD routing. Like to fly all united if possible. I have some United vouchers I like to use which means I have to fly UA equipment is what I was told.

I am open to another stopover in China or Japan if someone can recommend. Taking my wife on vacation and we have about 8 days to spend.

Since you can't use voucher on codeshare flight and UA don't fly between PVG and NRT, the only way I can think of is buy an open jaw ticket IAD-PVG, NRT-IAD and get a cheap flight over to NRT or get a cheap intra asia award flight and visit another city.

Do you have to go to PVG? If you go to TPE, ICN, BKK or SIN you could stop in Tokyo on the way over or back and everything could still be on UA metal. (Actually, if you went to SIN you could enjoy a three-stop IAD-HKG-SIN-NRT-IAD trip.)

I have to visit someone in Shanghai, so must go there. But not a bad idea. Any chance to get a routing IAD PVG PEK IAD? I guess I could go see the Great Wall of China.

You can buy a IAD-SFO-PVG then do an open jaw and find your own way from PVG to PEK then fly PEK-IAD.

If you're feeling adventurous, you could incorporate a ferry ride between Shanghai and Korea (Mokpo) or Japan (Osaka).

I only have 7 days to complete all my legs. I would love to see Japan but it sounds like it is not cost effective. Better off doing a separate trip to Japan later. I try for the RT from IAD PVG PEK IAD. Thanks for everyone's help.
