K class?

Last week's flight just showed up in Mileage Plus as "UA 0845 K Class SFO to TPE".

My ticket was a V fare. What is K class?

On most airlines, V and K are the cheapest coach tickets. No difference really. Were your fares the same?

In my experience, any flights you take that were booked in discounted economy class appear as K on the MP summary. If upgraded, it will show C or F, but you won't get the class of service bonus.

Exactly what smg77 said. It is not a class of flying per se, more a designator used by MP. Same applies on my statement for recent flights on Mexicana, Ansett and Varig - all show on my MP statment as "K" altho they were of course booked in no such class. Have Air NZ and British Midland showing as Y in same period, so go figger! (And the few UA flights I could not get upgraded on are showing in K as well, otherwise those show simply as C or F, despite being booked in lowball coach.)

We had this discussion last year, and I recall some US based MP members posted their discounted coach showed on MP statements as some other class, so I assumed K was used for non US members. However unless smg77 and Seattle are no longer in the US, this has changed it seems?

I figured that the "K" on the Mileage Plus statement was a phonetic abbreviation of "coach," used because "C" for coach would be confused with "C" for business(formerly Connoisseur).

Hey, I like that. Quite believable.

PHL is right. I asked the MP folks about this last time I was talking to them, and she explained that most of the time, K is used to designate an advance fare purchase, and then went on to say that 21 day, 14, 7 day advance all have different designations.

I didn't care at the time, because K still qualified for the bonus I was calling about. :-)

Class codes I've seen are F, C, Y, and K.
