What's wrong with United and Chase
The title isn't a question, it's a statement. United is losing money faster than a super tanker can leak the same dollars in oil...Well I'm not a high paid airline executive, but I can certainly point to some easy signs of where the root of the problem is. Same for Chase, for that matter.
Here is a great example: I'm very conservative with credit, so I consider credit card offers very seriously. I've finally decided on signing up for the United Platinum Plus Class Visa Card, which is free to Exec. Premiers (1P) for the first year. So far I've spent 30 minutes trying to find out where I apply. I started with the url provided in the literature: united.com/mpvseq08 and that toook me to page displaying terms and conditions, nothing else. I called the number provided in the Platinum Plus literature, 800-940-8129. They never heard of a Platinum card. They only sign you up for Signature cards. I was definately speaking to someone at a call center who had no idea about anything other than what was right in front of her and information on a Platinum Card was not there for sure. I then asked her if there was another number I should call. She gave a number for Credit Card Services at Chase. They directed me to Chase's website: www.chase.com and look at available credit cards. I did and did not see anything for United. So highly United and Chase paid executives who are trying to figure out why your "briliant" ideas are not working, consider doing more than coming up with the idea. If you market a product, make sure you have the tools and processes in place to sell it. Consumers like me are not willing to waste hours trying to figure out how to help your companies survive, by bending over backwards to buying your products. United/Chase Execs: I've used Google's translator (http://www.google.com/language_tools?hl=en) to translate the above into Spanish in case you copy this post to send a complaint to your call center. I've spoken with them (see above) and I've fairly sure they will be able to understand the text below better than the English copy. |
Googled "chase mileage plus platinum", clicked on first link, then clicked the big red "APPLY NOW" button which goes to the application:
https://www.firstusa.com/cgi-bin/web...on=&page=apply |
Try from the united site (this is the path I suggest they intended you to go)
Home > Mileage Plus > Earn miles > Partner guide > Credit Cards > Mileage Plus Visa http://www.united.com/page/article/0,10017,3865,00.html this will take you to Mileage Plus Platinum Class Visa Which will take you to the site wrkn4alivn provided. |

First USA was acquired by Chase several years ago.

Yeah it was probably targeted to me. But it was definately a failed attempt. If anyone in United Marekting bothers reading these post, you can go ahead and mark this effort down as failure. Root Cause: Lack of follow through.

It's supposed to be a Chase credit card. Did FirstUsa get bought by Chase? I'm not a Chase executive so I don't follow these things. I'm giving up after trying all possible links provided in the UA literature I received. I will only go so far to help a Company and if they are going to make me work for the purchase, I'll go somewhere else that's willing to sell it to me. This is ridiculous. I was on the fence anyway. The EQM's finaly got the better of me and I decided I'd go for it. After this, I've decided I'm not going to. It's allot easier to lose a Customer than gain one.
Update: Just checked on the UA site and did find the link to FirstUsa. That's still ridiculous that they can't get their printed material right or tell their call center about the products they are selling. What a joke. Since there is a prominent link on right side of the united.com home page, it's really not that difficult to find. Plus most non cardholders get dunned at least twice a month with invitation letters. And why would you care whether its Chase or FirstUsa or whether they are one or the same... you're not lending them any money. I signed up last month and my 30,000 miles posted even before I received my first statement, so something is working right. |
I guess my point is that you know your Operations are in sorry shape when Customers go to online forums moderated by non-Company people to get answers to questions about your Company.
For goodness sakes Executives, take control of your Company! Listen to your Customers, answer their questions and earn their business. You are by know means imune to the economic downturn. Yes you can continue to lay off the low level workers but when no one is left to do the job, Customers stop using your Company's services, and the Tax Payers (your Customers) decide enough is enough with helping poorly run companies, then your salary will also come to shocking end. I know that doesn't seem possible, but I'd ask you to consider the concept and do your job. |

I know that doesn't seem possible, but I'd ask you to consider the concept and do your job. I spoke to the Customer Service representative in the C Terminal at Ohare a couple weeks ago. I asked her a couple questions and she said, "Honey you know more about that than I do. We learn from you guys. They never tell us any of that stuff." Long story short, it sounds like the Marketing people role out the special offers but don't bother figuring out the back office processes which includes maknig sure the employees know what they are doing. What a perfect example of a Top Heavy organization. They are all so above everyone else in the Company that it would be beneath them to do the actual work. Problem is if the Managers don't do any work then the workers aren't going to know what they need to do or do their job. How frustrating to be a Customer of an organization like that. I doubt American is any better, which is also sad to say. It's quite a joke. |

In reference to OP's google translation, one of the larger call centers for Mileage Plus Visa is in Springfield MO and many residents here speak English. If you don't get someone helpful or understandable pretend it's United and hang up and call back.
