note from pilot
Yesterday evening, just after dinner had been served, the FA came to me and handed me a note from the captain saying "Thanks for flying United so often". I must say I was pleasantly surprised, more so since I just made Prem Ex for the first time under the reduced criteria.
Has anyone else had such experiences? |
While I've heard of this from others a number of times, I've only had it happen once, back in 1996. The captain wrote a note on the back of his business card and sent it back to me via the FA. I was the only 1K on board (Saturday 6am flight OAK-ORD) and the only one to get a note.
Great touch. Still remember the flight, out of all the flights I've taken with UA in the last 6 years. Greg |
My wife and I (and, I think, all the other first timers) got a certificate signed by the captain that we flew supersonic on the British Airways Concorde. A really nice touch; had the date of the flight and the routing.

I received a note, on the back of the pilot's business card also, only one time in all of my years of travel: it was UA from IAD to MSY about four years ago. I was Prem Ex at the time and was in the first row of Y (failed to upgrade), on, I believe, a 737.

When I made 1K last year flying DUS-ORD I was presented with a United embossed greeting card type deal, with signatures and personal meesages from the Captain Tom Greene, flight crew, purser and all FA staff - and a bottle of French Champagne. Like those above it is one of the nicest souveniers I have ever received in a lifetine of flying a few million miles, and will never forget receiving it.
Captain and crew on the LAX-SYD flight saw it, and also signed it too - United really made that flight home memorable. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum50/HTML/003657.html ------------------ ~ Glen ~ |
In the past few years, I have received business cards on 3 occasions, and have then sent my own business card back to the Captain thanking him for recognizing me as a 1K. But the best recognition was from a 2nd Officer, who remembered me from a day long delay in Detroit, when I flew with him 6 weeks later.

A few months ago, I was surprised to get a note from the pilot on the back of his business card saying thanks for flying United. I believe that everyone in first got them (not too many to write out on a 737). It was a nice touch, I thought.

Received a "Thanks for Being a 1K" on the back of the Captain's business card on an LAS-LAX Shuttle flight a couple of years back.

Last week, ORD-EWR, the pilot sent back a signed business card to everyone in FC. Over the past years I, as others have reported here, have received personalized 1K thank-you cards on maybe 3-4 occasions.
Once, about 3-4 years ago, the purser got on the PA during taxi-out, and thanked me and another 1K by name. That was one of the rare occasions that I got seriously angry with UA, and entered into protracted discussions with their management about that practice. Skipping the details, I simply note that from my perspective it is fortunate that UA has ended (at least on the flights that I've been on) such shenanigans. |

HA! I thought you'd get here eventually. Dad is a friend from AOL. Welcome to flyertalk. Nice to see a friendly face. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Why don't you fly in for the Catman get together in March. Some people have met here but most haven't. It's gonna be a fun weekend. I'm giving a 'private' tour to Brooklyn that Saturday and will be happy to squeeze you in. Welcome! Regards, Dan |
Dan: I finally decided to try posting again...have always had a heckuva time ....when I try to correct a typo and hit the backspace key, I lose the whole post including my password and have to start all over again, so I gave up.
Anyway, in March I am already going to Orange County and New Orleans so I dunno...give me the dates...thanks for the welcome, Dan |
hm, I'm pissed. on my "full" 1P qualifying flight DUS-ORD on 12/31, I didn't even get a rock much less a "thank you." haven't been on a UA plane since (not because I wasn't mass-salaamed by the crew or anything, it just worked out that way).
how do crew know when someone's status odometer ticks over from 2P to 1P or 1K? I'd imagine all that's on the manifest is the pax' status in effect when they get on the plane. |
How do they know? Having MileTex as a seatmate sure helps. See thread above. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Nope. Never heard of it before today, either. |
I have received 2 of these, last summer. Basically saying, "Sorry for the mix up, we hope to keep you as customer"
The pilots business card with a personal note a the back. Nice, but what am I supposed to do with it, take the pilot out to lunch? |
