Quick Pregunta for the UA regulars...
 

I'm flying this Sat. from ATL-EWR via ORD (could've taken Atlantic Coast, but they're the people who got me the $125 voucher from CS in the first place http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif.) My flight out of ATL, UA 1781, shows a/c type as Boeing 737, without the dash number indicated. Does this mean that I'm on one of the ancient -200s, or that the particular 737 model is still unknown by UA at this point?

N.B. My ORD-EWR flight was listed as 737-500.

Yes you are correct it is unclear which type of B737 they are going to use ATL to ORD and you aren't allowed to select seats online either for UA 1781.

Maybe it *is* the B737-200... I've always loved how loud they were. Doesn't bug me cuz they are usually pretty short flights.

For the record, I was able to get a seat assignment--but the agent still couldn't figure out which type...

The electronic timetable thinks that it's a 732. (UA1781, Sat Dec 16, ATL-ORD).

I'd bet a good chunk of change that its scheduled as a 200. There's 95 Y seats (eliminating the 300) and no published audio service (eliminating the 500). Enjoy your flight. I've been on 200s in/out of ATL more than anywhere else.

Ewww...the -200s don't have audio?! Even the ancient 727s are so equipped...

I'll confirm that, as I've flown 737-200s with no audio. Ancient 727s have no electronic headphone jacks in Y; you have to use the crappy pneumatic headphones the airline provides.

100% of the time, when the schedule says 737, I have been on the 732. No audio, noisy as hell, smaller overhead bins and a slightly different pitch on takeoff and landing. I have a love/hate relationship with them, but I won't miss them when they're gone.

If it does not state the -300 or -500 after the a/c then it is the fun loving 737-200 with the cigar type engines. You will notice a different climb rate than with the -3/-5 series. During the flight go and use the forward lav and take a look at the airworthiness certificate by the door (1L), and see what year it was made.
