Just a quick question...
If I were to make 1P inflight, will I get the 100% bonus miles for that flight or only 25% since I took off as a 2P?
|
I believe your FIRST flight on any new MP level determines your new status bonus. In flight does not count!
If I have 50,001 miles now after my last flight, the NEXT flight will attract 1P extra points and benefits, not the last one. Having said that, interesting and wonderful things CAN happen in-flight BEFORE you officially make a new level. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum50/HTML/003657.html |
Takeshi,
Unfortunately, answer is NO. I was in the same situation three yeas ago and I recevied only 25% for the flight. Kuma, Japanese 1K from Tokyo |
I had this same situation happen on a mileage run recently, where I reached the next staus level 125 miles into an LAX-ORD leg. Only on my connection ORD-BDL did the status "kick-in".

Your new status benefits kicks in after you have officially attained it. That means after completing your qualifying flight.

I had a different result. When I first made Premier on mileage, I checked my mileage award and saw that UA had credited me for making Premier in-flight. I made Premier after X miles of a Y-mile-long flight, and got a bonus of 25% of Y-X.
If you make Premier on segments then you would get no bonus for that flight because you don't make Premier in-flight but at the end of the flight. |
My 2 cents. I made 1P between DFW and DEN on a day I flew from DFW-DEN-SEA-LAX-JFK. The DFW-DEN leg received the 25% bonus, while all the other segments received the 100% bonus.

Just FYI, sometimes things can be a bit whacky in this department. That's because same day flights (especially non-US originating flights) don't always post in the proper order.
If you spot a long haul that put you "over the top" that has been incorrectly posted before your short haul that should have been the one that put you over the top, just give the Mileage Plus Service Center a call and they will fix it for you. You don't want to loose those bonus miles for that long haul that actually came after you qualifed! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif |
Premex is correct... Ive had the exact case he describes happen to me.... and if the chips fall the wrong way for you, UA does revert the order. ------------------ Gaucho100K |
Also know this:
Let's say you are making status on segments. If your trip takes you on segments 59,60, and 61, the UA computer might not give the credits in the same order.... In other words, last year, I flew LAX-SFO, SFO-JFK. The SFO-JFK would be my 1st segment as a PE. But the comp gave me credits in reverse. So I got only 25% bonus on the transcon but 100% on the short LAX-SFO. |
Also you might want to tell the gate agent that you just made Prem Ex on the previous flight, and he/she can reenter your MP number and that will show your new status.
New MP status does not change automatically. PNR will show your MP status at time of ticketing (as far as I know) |

PremEx, backstop me here: I was under the impression that your status can take up to 72 hours to update?

essxjay that is correct. It can take several days for your new status to pass from the Mileage Plus system to the United Reservations system. However, gate agents can manually look up your current year to date mileage in real time, on a separate database.
I've actually been shown a screen that shows YTD Mileage Plus miles as 53,000, yet the status in the reservation system (even after re-entering the Mileage Plus number) still showed only "Premier." |
