Lufthansa/UAL Codeshare Question
If I purchase a ticket on a Lufthansa flight which is also designated as a UAL codeshare and I buy the ticket from a travel agency which designates the flight as a Lufthansa flight number, will I get premier bonus miles for the trip between IAD and FRA? Or does my ticket have to be a UAL ticket. I am under the impression that not all seats on a codeshare flight are considered codeshare seats. Am I just confused?

seats are predefined UA or LH seats on such transatlantic flights.
if the flight is booked as a LH flight number you don't get status bonus nor 'true-flier-bonus' into your UA Mileage Plus account. Only class status (25% in paid business) if appropiate is added. But you could upgrade such a flight with UA miles on 'selected' fares (same fare rules as otherwise on UA).
You can't upgrade with any miles/vouchers if the flight is booked as a UA-code-share-flight-number with LH being the carrier, but you than would earn status bonus miles and true-flier-miles.

I think I understand, Rudi. My plan is to use a consolidator bceause the fares to TLV are pretty high for the dates I need. The consolidator is selling "Lufthansna" tickets, which will accrue miles according to the consolidator. But, if I understand you correctly, as long as the issued ticket has the Lufthansa flight number, even if it is a codeshare flight, I will not get bonus miles unless the ticket has the UAL flight # 3XXX.

thank you for your thank you!
all (fully) paid tickets on LH earn miles (since oct-17-1998 'W'-fares included)- all transatlantic eco-flights earn 100% (miles and status miles) into your UA Mileage Plus account.

Rudi, by "new rules" I meant that up until a few months ago, wasn't it the rule that LH flights not associated with a transatlantic flight did not accrue miles, or some such thing?
Perhaps I am confused. It would not be the first time and I can guarantee it won't be the last.

Incidentally, the best fare available for a CDG-FRA-PRG was about $500 on LH, if purchased in the US- more than my transatlantic flight.
If purchased in France, the SAME flights were priced to me at FF1900, or just about $259.
It pays to have friends and family in France who can Fedex tickets to you. Is this an idea for a new business or what?

the rules, when using UA's Mileage Plus program, are still 'discriminating' LH the same: only 50% mileage credit on non-transatlantic-LH-flights in eco (125/150% in paid business/first).

Also, just an FYI .. dont forget to ask the consolidator if the ticket is eligible for frequent flyer miles. Most are now, but there still are a few consolidators that have contracts that forbid FFY miles ..
Also in so far as bonus miles, only if your ticket reads UA 2XXX will you get bonus (unless of course bus or fc).
