Cheap UA Fare
All this talk about least expensive elite qualification, etc. has me wondering....
What's the cheapest UA fare either one way or round trip in the US right now??? Just curious! |
SFO-RNO
78.00 Round Trip [This message has been edited by Dawoz (edited 09-14-2000).] |
Dawoz,
Just how do you know that fare between SFO and Reno is the lowest? Is there a special program to figure that out? Or are you just smart! Dan |
Reno to Las Vegas has always been a good deal, too. I did that last week on a 7 day advance purchase at $44 one way plus taxes.
It's a Southwest route, so they have to be competitive. UA makes you connect at LAX, where Southwest does it nonstop. |
Wow that is not bad... $88 RT and you get 4 segments.... so if you were 12 segments short for qualification. you can get it for less than $275... and some time.. but not that bad.....

I'm just that good. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif And......I happened to be thumbing through yesterdays SF Cronicle and found a full page add with a few UAL fares that are on sale highlighted. All were from SFO: Anchorage 348 Atlanta 498 Austin 248 Boise 168 Boston 598 Burbank 98 Chicago 398 Dallas/Ft. Worth 248 Denver 198 Honolulu 398 Houston 298 Indianapolis 398 Las Vegas 108 Los Angelas 98 Miami 598 NYC 598 Ontario 88 Orange County 148 Orlando 598 Philadelphia 598 Pheonix 148 Portland 118 Reno 78 San Diego 98 Santa Barbara 108 Spokane 198 Tampa 598 Washington DC 598 Dusseldorf 568 Frankfurt 568 London 378 Milan 468 Paris 448 You get the picture http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
It's interesting that some of the fares in the newspaper ad (it was in Wednesday's New York Times as well) had SFO and LAX pricing HIGHER then when I checked on the www.ual.com site for fares.
Not much but like 20-30 dollars. Maybe because booking on-line has the 5 percent INternet booking discount kicking in. So it might be the same fare. |
Are all taxes and fees included in the $78 SFO-RNO fare? The ad in the WSJ a couple of days ago excluded some of the additional fees. So, I'll re-phrase the original Chix's question: what is the cheapest fare, INCLUDING all taxes and fees?
|
I have since disposed of the ad.
I don't recall reading if it included taxes or not. I DO remember it saying something similar to "save an additional 5% by using ual.com". |
Dawoz -
Thanks for taking the time to type in all those fares. I missed that ad in the Chron! 'Preciate it! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif -levi ------------------ Travel is a powerful antidote to contemporary American arrogance. |
The ads in the Tuesday SF Chronicle did not include taxes. The $378 London fare, when you factored in taxes and the 5% web discount, worked out to $447.
|
LAX-LAS midweek is $79 including all taxes, fees, surcharges, gratuities, graft, and corruption.
|
From what I have gathered so far, the best fare for a RT segment run is:
RNO - LAS = 4 segments @ $94.00 incl. taxes IAD - SHD = 2 segments @ $86.00 incl. taxes (UAX so full 500 per segment) If time is important, the RT IAD-SHD can be done in about 3 hours total and requires only a 3 day adv. purchase, no Sat. stay. You are much more subject to delays for the RNO - LAS run as you have to go through SFO and it requires a 7 day adv. purchase. |
Chix: What is SHD? It's not in my just-expired UA schedule http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/confused.gif.
|
I think I remember reading this in the Denver Post.... the article mentioned that the new $20 Fuel Surcharge will not be applicable to this fare sale.
