LH codeshare flights
I am taking some intra-Europe flights next month on LH the travel agent says that most of them do not have UA codeshares. I know, from experience, that I have to book the LH flight with the UA flight number to get the PremEx bonus. Is there something my travel agent is missing, or am I just out of luck. I am returning FRA-YVR, which saves quite a bit of money over a BA from LHR-SEA or SK CPH-SEA, but that flight (LH492) apparently doesn't have a code share. Could it be that only LH flights that have one end in the US have UA codeshares?

There's a AC codeshare on that flight, but that's it. Its probably not part of a valid routing where UA is authorized to sell travel. For instance, if you even wanted to buy a ticket on a route that has a codeshare, you might not be able to buy it. Example... you can buy a SFO/AMS ticket which has a UA codeshare on BD, but you can't buy the LHR/AMS segment alone on UA metal for the BD flight.

There is no UA / LH codeshare into or out of CA. Almost any LH flt to / from US are codeshares. As are the cxs in FRA / MUC or DUS to a lot of german / european destinations. You will not be able to book those segments as a codeshare without the transatlantic portion.

Also, intra-European flights on LH in discounted economy only earn 50% mileage credit. Still get 500 mile minimum.

all three answers above are (as usual) correct.

The UA/LH codeshare flights are strictly established to make connections with. You'll notice that there are unbalanced #s of them---many more Germany-foreign Europe than foreign Europe--Germany (the inbound US-Germany flights arrive over a longer span of time than leaving times for the Germany-US flights.
