As I fellow frequent traveler...I can empathize with your situation. I've never had an overseas flight cancelled so I guess I am due at some point too(1.5 mm and counting).
When these things happen, I don't vent my frustrations to the crew as it is rarely their fault and I'm sure they are frustrated too.

ORD 747's - 3 Mechanicals today
I am trying to get to Hong Kong today and flight #895 has been delayed since noon. First a 4pm posted revised departure time, now a 5pm decision. The flight to Shanghai and the flight to Tokyo also now have issues and are showing delays or decisions. Shanghai has been delayed since early this morning. Does anyone know the current dispatch rate for the 747's? Does anyone think I have a chance to get to Hong Kong tonight?

I hope this is not a sign of things to come with the 747's. I'm on one tomorrow night SFO-SYD.

It's by my count the 3rd or 4th straight day with multi-hour delays on 895 due to aircraft servicing.

Ua 895 and 881 on 5/16 were delayed 2.5 and 5 hours respectively. 882 past 3 days were all delayed due to airport operations and I call bull on that. What is going on?

There has been a 744 out of service in PVG for about 5 days plus other 744's with extended mechanicals, no spare airplanes = flight interruptions. Call that bull if you wish.

In-laws' flight 881 ORD-NRT on 5/23 cancelled
So my in-laws were scheduled to take UA881 tomorrow ORD-NRT-ICN, however, the ORD-NRT segment is cancelled.
I just checked my FIL's account and it's showing several flights Sat and Sun ORD to ICN via SFO or NRT. I take this to mean that UA is rerouting them, but when would we typically know what the final reroute is? Would calling on their behalf do any good, or do we just have to sit tight and wait? It looks like their flights back (ICN-NRT-ORD) on 6/8 are unaffected (for now).
They're both GMs, although will be comfortably 2P after this trip and DEQMs post (I registered them before they booked the itin).
edited to add that they prefer to leave on Saturday and really don't want a Sunday departure. If it ends up being Sun, any justification for compensation?

If I absolutely have to be there ... say from ORD - NRT, then I'm going a day earlier because the UA 747's seem to go AWOL more often than the 777.
Either that or I route myself through a station that has 777 or multiple frequencies like SFO.
I'm not saying its likely to happen at all, but to be absolutely safe, I don't trust the 747 to get me there for a MUST BE AT NO MATTER what meeting.
That being said, I still like UA and greatly appreciate the new C on the 767 and 747.

Flurry of delayed/cancelled flights today (6/18) ex-NRT.
UA 880 NRT-HNL cancelled. Apparently from what I've been told the inbound (ORD-NRT) is delayed and scheduled to arrive at 10:14 PM local time.
UA 838 NRT-SFO delayed 15 minutes
UA 881 NRT-ICN delayed 1 hour 30 minutes
UA 803 NRT-SIN delayed 30 minutes
UA 852 NRT-SFO delayed 25 minutes
UA 891 NRT-BKK delayed 50 minutes
UA 853 NRT-TPE delayed 1 hour 15 minutes
Ironically there was a gentleman who I saw at the bottom of the escalator at security who was going to HNL. However he was NRSA so he was flying SFO-NRT-HNL
Last I saw he was now headed back to SFO on UA 838

Today 881 arrived in Tokyo 7 hours late. Tried to take off two times from ORD and was aborted and finally took off on the third try.

Another bad day for UA881 ORD-NRT. It's showing about four hours late.
I hope it's OK tomorrow... I'm on it

Lengthy delays for UA 881 to NRT and UA 835 to PVG today 8/22 (sat)
UA 881 ORD-NRT delay for 4 hrs til 4pm
UA 835 ORD-PVG delay for 8 hrs til 6:30pm
When 881 arrives in NRT it would be 7pm, miss out all the asia connection
I just came back from a MR around 3:30pm in ORD, saw at the 835 gate C10, UA actually had 4 inflight galley carts lay around, one with water bottles, one with sodas, one with sandwhiches, one with cartons of OJ, also a big box with bags of chips laying on the floor. I also saw several UA people looks like service director handling the crowd, answering questions. Good to see at least UA is trying to do something. ^
After that, went to RCC at C16, ask about what is that about. The agent told me 881 had mechanical, had to take another 744, 835 had a mechaical, then take another 744, but the LH plane clipped the UA 744 wing or fuselage, not sure, had to take another 744, so therefore 3 744 down in ORD. I bet those gone mechanical are those N17XUA and N18XUA, those are close to 20 years old. I wonder what happen tomorrow.
881 finally left with N119UA, and 835 left with N178UA.
