747 hit by lightning at ORD

The plane that was supposed to operate UA881 to NRT on Feb 27th was hit by lighning while on the ground at ORD. They worked all nday trying to fix some electronics that were knocked out until they decided to fly a replacement aircraft. We arrived at NRT 6 1/2 hours late...

I'd rather be 6.4 hours late into NRT than on-time to a gruesome demise in the middle of the pacific...

I flew SFO-ORD on a 747 on 2/26 and we got struck by lightening during our descent into ORD. Heard from our pilot on Ch 9: "Major Lightening Strike" and confirmed by ATC. Might have been the same plane.

came in to ORD the same night from PDX and a lightning bolt struck literally right outside my window (really freaked me out), but luckly it missed us.

personally, i was shocked they were even landing planes there that night. Some of the worst weather i've seen on approach!

Yes. It arrived 13 minutes ago in Frankfurt.

If you are referring to the "odd" route, read those big red letters

They forgot the Grey Poupon.

Seriously, probably a mechanical problem; and operations wants them back at ORD for the repair.

Huh?...every flight I have flown or followed "ceases" at the oceans, does NOT show a return; this appears to be a return to ORD

It arrived early into FRA at 5:15 local time (30 minutes ago), I don't know how you can argue that. Flightaware has been known to have problems, and they are not the best at flight status.

Maybe because Flightaware states "arriving shortly' in green letters and then showing a return (presumably to O'Hare). Why do you believe it laanded in FRA-were you on the plane???

Flightaware is NOT an accurate source, ESPECIALLY for Intl flights.

Flight 944 blocked in 30 mins early in FRA, aircraft N769UA. As UAX_Brasilia correctly points out, Flight Aware does occasionally have glitches.

How do you know it's N769UA?
